I have been excited for sometime to post one of my projects here. unfortunatley I come to you with a complete and utter creative block. I have built all sorts of random things (just like most everyone) and this one has me a litle stumped. Usually when I'm presented an idea for a project, my mind goes wild and I have several ideas to mish-mash into the final result. This one is a tad different. I have personal customers that I build one-off things for, a pretty normal thing. But the company I work for (Big dealership/auto group) has asked me to build them something. Somehow I find this to be a big deal and feel a bit overwhelmed as I want to impress the pants off of them. It has created a bucket of nerves. That is where I call upon your brilliance:

OK short story long there, sorry :willy_nil here's the short version:

I need to build an exhaust display to be used for performance mufflers we sell. They are a bit large and pretty heavy for a muffler. I need it to hold 2 mufflers (see pics). It needs to come apart to an extent to transport it to shows/races etc. Needs to have that race inspired feel (I'm thinking dimple die'd accents and a ceramic coated finished product with polished allen bolts to achieve that). I have a couple ideas but I simply cannot put pen to paper and be happy. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks!!!!

My original thoughts are to use a set of V6 exhaust manifolds as my feet. And using the collector to attach a pipe that will 90 degree up and sweep back to keep it stable. Attach both pipes that go up with a dimpled die'd plate or 2 to connect them and give them some rigidity, and using standard 2 bolt exhaust flanges to break it down. Man wish I could draw this out to give a better representation. I was going to try to make it look like a dual exhaust system, and weld a couple tips to the top... yeh or neh?

maybe a stupid idea but who knows it may spark some other innovation.

There is a muffler place in town that has a gigantic muffler displayed outside. it is made from an oval fuel oil tank with large in and outlet pipes welded to it. painted silver, it looks like a gigantic muffler.

so maybe something like that, only slice off just 8" or so of the tank so it could hang on a wall or mount on wheels like a rack, with screws in the center of it to hang your display mufflers on.

sort of a comparison of what you sell on an old school huge muffler backdrop...

make sense?

Build what looks like the back half of the underside of the car standing up. So it looks like you are looking at the stuff like the car was on a lift and you are looking up.

Have most everything black like the frame as such, fuel tank can be silver or whatever.
Then you will have the exhaust pipes coming up as they should be under the car to the the mufflers and exit pipes.
All the mufflers and pipes should be stainless to make the pop.

The base will be basic tube steel with some decorative bracing and the wheels will be go cart slicks

Gungatim,
Yes, that makes sense. Sort of a very large open faced cabinet that is shaped like a muffler? That would be awesome if I could scale it down. It may work for the individual mufflers

Rsanter,
I've thought of something similar as I have a rear bumper for one. But I'm trying to keep the size down so it would fit into an SUV (seats down of course).

Bigguns,
He'll yes, that is awesome... where on earth did you find that?

That is a Magna Flow functional display from a few years ago, break the pipe connection rotate the Gatling, reconnect, start the truck, hear the music. I think this is one of the best exhaust displays I have ever seen, plus it is functional, which helps make the choice.

Good for them. I always thought it would be cool to be able to "Try it before you buy it". I know thats pretty much what all the clips on youtube are for, but that is genius. Luckily we take the "Equipped" cars with us to races/shows that way everyone can still hear it. Looking at it doesn't tell you anything but that its shiny.
