Depending on ones point of view that could cover tractors from 12 hp to a 100hp. Can you be a bit more specific what you are working on? Is this a Stack that goes straight up, under chassis, or hidden under the sheet metal/plastic?

I'm sure one could be built, but I think I'd start with a visit to Tractor Supply or a similar store and se what's already out there. Unlikely that you would find a bolt-on, but there are lot's of small mufflers out there for the smaller engines often found on tractors. Building a muffler from scratch is a tougher proposition than you would think. I looked into it once and decided that finding one made a lot more sense. I actually found a place in England that would make what I wanted and, since several were needed, that has worked out great.

Simple straight thru size to pipe out of engine, expand to a larger pipe and add simple same size hole baffles. The larger pipe and more baffles = quieter. If you want quiet make exhaust travel a S inside the muffler, means oval or rectangular shape. Or just follow the lemmings over the cliff and go buy one.

Thanks for the help.

larry g, the muffler has to be under hood. The major problem is that space is limeted, the idea first was to use the original muffler but to modify the internal item to make it quieter and without to much back pressure it not easy at all. the inside of the muffler can not have fiber glass or stanless stell mesh because it get red when the engine is under load. I got another muffler from another engine it is a little bit bigger, this one needs to be modified too. this is an air cooled engine so it even makes more noise. Have you or anyone modified the internals of these mufflers? It can not be a straight through.

joe 49, can you post a sketch of your idea?

Ed T, Do you know how they made the inside of the muffler to make it less noisy without too much back pressure?

A simple one is just a straight piece of pipe with plates cut like washers and welded inside. Like this picture without the thru preferated pipe, just some baffles.
