This is a tool that I say "where you been all my life!". Awesome first impressions. I talked to them and they were not sure about a low speed Delta that I came across for free, but I figured why not. It's only 1800 RPM but it still does a great job on my first few tests....I actually might prefer the low speed high torque of this grinder for gradual material removal. I always have a 1HP Baldor if I really need to remove material!
The belt change is STUPID easy, that's gonna be a HUGE plus. Long term project is to out this on the top of a Snap On KR290A that I am restoring.....pics on that will come later....

Link to the Multi tool....

Yes, you can orient the multitool vertically (or any angle) and it can be mounted on the left side so the platen is facing forward when mounted vertically.

Here is mine mounted on a Baldor 7307. The 1/2 hp Baldor powers it very well.

I have seen only a handful of these mounted on the left side, while majority is mounted on the right side.

Yours is the first post I have read where it explains WHY someone would want it mounted in the left. Thanks!

I would like to have one of these.

Stupid question: I have a Baldor Buffer motor, which does not appear to have the mounting holes for the wheel guards. Does anyone know if I can mount a Multi Tool on here? Or do I need to call them on this?

Thanks

Yes, I didn't find much information about mounting vertically or on the left side in my searching. That was part of my reason for posting here to get the information out there as it would've helped me.

I haven't seen that style of Baldor buffer before. It looks like it is made to allow a bracket (guard or similar) to bolt around its external circumference. You would have to make a custom adaptor bracket to mount a multitool grinder on it.

I prefer the vertical orientation for space efficiency as opposed to the horizontal orientation (on the right so the platen is facing up) that you most always see the Multitool mounted. I would prefer a table as well, and it would be relatively easy to mount a grinder tool rest onto the Multitool bracket to work in the vertical orientation. I'd do this if I wasn't heading in a different, more creative direction. I plan to post a new thread on that project soon.

Here's my take.
That is a very nice table addition! Very professional looking. Well done!

Here is my take. I 3D printed a custom mount adaptor and custom drive wheel to mate a vintage Atlas 5010 belt sander with table to a 10” (1.5hp) Baldor grinder.

Very cool. I've got my eye on one of those old deltas on Craigslist.

Unfortunately, I had to make an adapter to fit the Multitool to this craftsman grinder. I had it on a 3/4 horse Dayton previously and it fit no problem.

@GeoBruin - I had read before that Craftsman grinders required a spacer/adaptor to mount a multitool. Yours looks very clean.

Did you machine that table and its mounting brackets as well? Again, those look really nice.

For the record the MT will bolt directly to a 7” Baldor grinder, but will require a similar spacer/adaptor to what GeoBruin made if someone wants to mount one to an 8” or 10” Baldor. Not to mention a modified or custom drive pulley to fit the larger shaft diameter on the 8” Baldor (3/4” shaft diameter) or 10” Baldor (7/8” shaft diameter).

@GeoBruin - the Atlas 5010 is very similar to the Delta 6x48 belt sanders, albeit at 3/4 scale. The benefit of the Delta is a 5.5” diameter drive wheel, so if spun at 3600 rpm the belt will be doing over 5000 feet per minute. The Atlas only has a 3.25” diameter drive wheel, so even spinning at 3600 rpm the belt is only doing 3000 fpm. Not an optimal speed for metal work. I want to experiment with one of the Delta sanders as well and have a lead on one local to me.

Yes, I machined the table and the mounting brackets as well. I can't take credit for the general design as my dad did it to his first. I think my only unique twist was the slot for the original MT miter gauge.

I thought that looked smaller than the Delta. It's really a good fit on that big Baldor. Any larger and it would look too big.

My little Multitool is just right for what it does. I've got something a little bigger in the works for more aggressive metal removal.

Yes, you can orient the multitool vertically (or any angle) and it can be mounted on the left side so the platen is facing forward when mounted vertically.

Here is mine mounted on a Baldor 7307. The 1/2 hp Baldor powers it very well.
I put a MultiTool on a Baldor 7307 as well. Very smooth and quiet running, and enough power for belts over 80 grit. I modified the mount to use 2x42 belts.

I have long, long since run out of room. Fortunately, I'm in the process of moving and my garage is going to going to almost double in size! A responsible person would just move into the bigger space and have more room to work, but I will undoubtedly use it as an excuse to collect more **** 😭
