I've had the Gerber 600 for maybe 15 years. It is still a great tool and it lives in my laptop bag which is a daily carry for my work.

What is the best way to clean down inside a multi tool. I just pulled mine out and upon examination it has accumulated some dirt and grime down in there and I ant to get it out. I am sure I could make something work but I have found that the guys on the garage journal usually have a trick or two that makes the job go easier and better.

Another question is this; has anyone found a good belt sheath that can hold the multi tool and a good pen light. I use a stream light and I like it and I have tried the Nite IZE Pock-Its but it is longer than I need. Just thought I would ask.

Also for those that carry a multi tool daily on their belt, how often do you use it?

I had a Leatherman tool.. real old school.. was always on my belt until i managed to break the blade.. my brother (who happens to be a multi tool fanatic) had given it to me some years ago as a gift.. i often used to spray it with some windolene, give it a good wipe, one ''tool'' at a time and let it air.. it was only now and then that i would completely dip it and allow all the gunk to loosen before blasting it with the compressor to get all the gunk out before wiping it down..

He took my Tool from me at the beginning of this year and said, ''i didnt know you still had this old thing, i will trade you a WAVE 2 for this old thing if you want?''.. so i have a new wave now..

But that was just my 2 rands..

Hot water and sudzy Dawn soap. The bubbles loosen the deepest crud and get in all the crevices without needing a toothpick or q-tip. Then blow it out with air, and re-lubricate with White Lightning (a wax based bicycle chain lube that does not collect dirt like oils).

I make sure all my multitools and penlights have pocket clips so I don't have to deal with belt holsters catching on things.

Pelican 1920 LED is my current carry light.

I used to carry surefires but the switch kept wearing out, then the 1910 but I prefer the life of the 1920 with 2 AAA batts. Now the 1910 lives in my wifes purse.

I carry my Leatherman Wave and a Four Sevens Preon 1 in a Skinth everyday for the last 2 years. Simple but super functional, they have a ton of different models to hold any number of items. I have the L Shield and it carries the Wave, Preon 1, Space Pen and a Pocketwrench 2.

Bop on over to EDC Forums and you'll likely find a half dozen or more carry solutions. They are to EDC (Every Day Carry) as Garage Journal is to garagery.
