I'm in the market for a new Multi tool. I have had the Leatherman Surge for 4 or 5 years and it's time to send it in and get a few things fixed and I need one to carry while this one is gone.

What do you guys carry on your belt?

Well after reading through many reviews I decided to just get a Surge again.
Leatherman Surge

It has a few features that I really like.

Hard wire cutter
wire crimper

I already have the complete set of bits, saws and files that fit it.

No sense in starting over when it works well for me.

Thanks for the replies.

Oh I also like the black oxide finish, the one I already have is the SS.

I've had my Leatherman Juice Xe6 as my 'around the house' multi tool for a while now and really like it.

I also have the original supertool which I really haven't had the chance to use yet.

I worked as an Industrial Set Up man at a ball bearing plant to pay my way through college. I carried the same Leatherman six days a week for four years putting it through every conceivable situation..........best tool I ever owned!

I carry a Leatherman at the FD but not at home. It's just one of the basic original models and nothing fancy. I like it.

I also bought a Buck tool many years ago, not impressed with it though.

I upgraded from a Leatherman Wave to a Leatherman Charge TTi (and then an XTi later). But since the original Wave, the Wave has caught up on features and quality to the Charge. There isn't much advantage to the Charge any more, and there is a big jump in price to have one.

Doesn't the cord drag the ground when it's in your pocket?

Not if you have the cordless. But for me, aside from the knife, any tool must have a can opener, eyeglass screwdrivers, and I prefer to also have scissors. That's just going to happen with a Fein. ;)

I don't bother around the workshop! A multi tool is never as good as a proper pair of pliers and a couple of decent screwdrivers, and I've usually got both around!

Away from home it's different! Love the Victorinox swisstool spirit! Better made than most! Even then I sometimes give up and chuck needle nose pliers, a bit driver and a hefty jack knife in my bag!

The place I see most multi tools is around the airport! They are exempt from the tool control procedures that most airlines use so the guy's don't have to book them out! I'm waiting for someone to come up with a really decent quality multi tool with correctly sized screwdriver blades and properly forged pliers! Suspect it would be popular!

I like my Wave because it has real scissors ! Some how I managed to break off the handle of the scissors so I'm waiting to get my repaired/replacement tool from Leatherman.

I cannot find a multi-tool that comes in a pouch with a place for my small flashlite and a marking pen.

For me, I always carry the Victorinox Swiss Champ.

It is just a brilliant piece of design, very compact, very sturdy
and very useful... I love it.

I've had a super tool, supertool 300, wave, surge and pst. I like the wave the best, hands down. And with a pocket clip, it's hard to beat. Sometimes I leave my sebenza home and just carry that! I carried the surge for a while but it's bulky and the blade exchanger for the file and saw is annoying. I got the bit kit and extender as well. The wave is just as capable as the surge (pliers and tools) but in a smaller package. I hated smaller tools because I thought they were less capable, but the wave hasn't left my side yet. I would also suggest a victorinox swisstool or swisstool spirit. Better built than the leather man tools, but if you like one handed opening knives on the outside its a down fall. The pliers are very robust.

I've had this Gerber multi plier for at least twenty years. I received it as a gift and have carried it in my work bag ever since. It's not something that I use every day, but when I've needed it, it hasn't let me down. I know Leatherman makes a fine product, and I've never owned one, but having had this Gerber tool all these years, I'd highly recommend it. It's well made, it's tough, easy and comfortable to use, and the fit and finish are spot on. I would say that it could give a similarly equipped Leatherman tool a run for it's money.
