Multifuntion tools, all about the blades ...

Now that I have a high quality Chicago Electric multifunction tool, its real clear this game is all about the blades. $20 for the tool to get you hooked, and a lifetime of $8 to $25 for blades. I don't know a thing about the blades except the prices are silly high and the quality silly low, or looks that way, so I am depending on everybody else for good info.

Please keep the thread on the information, not opinion side, and mostly I would like to see what fits what, reviews of specific blades, and good sources.

Actually, the Bosch adapter fits many brands of multi-tools.

Bosch & Dremel's adapters allow the use of those brands' accessories with many other branded tools.

There's also a photo of a chart over at Coptool that shows the cross-brand compatibilities, but it only covers current and upcoming mainstream brands.

the craftsman one use a fein blade, this is what i have but havent had to buy any blades yet these are holding up nice

I would think this thread would have more input on blade interchangeability with all the multifunction tool owners there are out there. I'll have to check what brands are carried around here. I know for sure Dremel is in all of them.

I have been very pleased with the straight wood cutting blade that is included with the HF tool.

The black circular saw blade got dull really fast on me after I accidentally cut nails with it.

I used my HF brand for the first time yesterday. I have to say I'm very pleased with the straight edge blade. It definitely cuts through wood pretty good. I'm a little disappointed in the black round blade though. I felt as if it took longer to cut with the round black blade.

Exact same experience here.
I'm still on the my original straight blade. I also realized that I was accidentally cutting through small nails and staples with it and it still cuts very well.

So a little update to this thread. I just got the newest Woodcraft catalog and they carry several blades that will fit five different brands of multifunction tools. They'll fit Fein MultiMaster, Bosch Multi-X, Craftsman Multi Tool, Dremel Multi-Max and Chicago Multi-Tool. They're branded the Impreial multi tool blades. They're kind of expensive plus shipping but it's an option for those out there. Personally I can spend $8 for the HF blades but it's good to know there's another option. I'm happy with Bosch blades. Will I need an adapter for using them on a rockwell(not mine)?

I don't know if the Craftsman blades fit on the HF model but...

They have a TWO pack carbide grit semicircular for 14.99, while HF has a similar SINGLE blade for the same price. (these are for grout lines and tile adhesive, etc)

I haven't investigated fully, like checked dimensions, but it might be worth looking into
