Tape measures, grinders, calipers, box cutters I just kept buying them until I I tripped over them.

A lot of my stuff is like that. I used to work at a place that I did the clearance pricing tags. When you can get name brand stuff at 90% off it's hard not to build up tools until they are in the way. It's nice to be able to give stuff away and not cringe because you spent almost nothing on it.

Just realised how many tapes and rulers I had, these are just back up stock, I have tapes and rulers everywhere, I hate looking for a tape.

Off Topic but not hi-jacking.

Pines: just saw the three thread links in your signature. All three are very good. Thanks.

Keep your eyes open... I rotate them among about a dozen...

Speaking of duplicates... I should take a picture of my Hex Bit DRAWER. Boxes of organized LABELLED bins of bits.

Drill bits too... pretty sure Well... I know it's TWO whole drawers... I have at least a dozen complete sets of bits... yes... some are cobalt... some are just HSS... etc but all the numbers, letters, fractional, metric. Multiple times.

I most stock up on 10mm sockets and wrenches. I had enough duplicates I put together a full second box for the car trailer. Now I don’t have to fill a tool box every time I go racing or to pick up a project.

Some of you may not realize what I originally meant. He has one tool box with multiple sets of the same snap-on wrench set or 3 or four of the same exact snap on pliers. But he has this with lots of products. I'm thinking they came from buy one get one deals. I have a few duplicates like that. I didn't mean multiple sets in different mfg. I have 3 sets of reg length metric wrenches. Snap on, proto and Mac spread across 3 different tool boxes. Same with screw drivers sets of different brands and pliers. To me that's normal too.

What does he work on? Maybe he has multiples of certain tools so if he loses/forgets/mislays one, or somebody borrows it, he has spares. I am not a mechanic, so I find myself with multiple sets of multiple mfgs, as I never know what I need.

One reason to have multiples is lots of times I'll have friends & or my sons over working on multiple projects at the same time, nothing worse than waiting on a socket or wrench. Getting ready for a trip could have 5 or 6 guys working on their bike , same with atv's, some how I ended up being the community garage, but it's always a blast, worth having the extra tools.

Industrial air compressors. They don't take a huge variety of tools. But he's got the whole 72" cab filled.

Time is money, a broken tool can cause an instant halt to a project. I have duplicate bit sockets and puller jaws because of this situation. If the deal is right, better to have a spare tool or two.

I have a few sets of duplicates, mainly because the ones I used for work will inevitably end up with sewage or grease on them, and I don't want that on some of my projects I'm working on at home.

I recently went through my box knowing I had so many duplicates and put together a nice start of tools for a young man going to automotive trade school by day and working late afternoons at a local Pep Boys. He was so appreciative and I have not missed any of it. Proud to say his first Snap-on tool came from me.

good man.
meanwhile my 3/4 in wrenches are breeding like rabbits.

If you don't have multiples of the same tool you're not "Garage Journal".
Get with the program.
That is all.

I have multiples of lots of things, first my workshop is 6 miles from home so you need to dedicate a good amount of tools to there, all the common hand tools and power tools really, for metal work, my work van is full of building/ carpentry tools as well as standard stuff, sockets, wrenches, grinders etc, I have a fair amount at home, at least enough for home repairs etc as well as storage for a lot of lesser used stuff (mostly work related) that I need occasionally but just can't carry on the van every day.

Being able to have duplicates can save so much time provided the tools are located where they are to be used, no point having several wrench sets in a toolbox, when you want a set on the van, a set at home, a couple sizes by the mill and lathe that you need on each machine etc.
You can never have too many angle grinders though.
