I have attached pics of a Muncie M-20 transmission out of a 1967 Chevelle that came into my shop yesterday. It had one ear broken off and another one cracked. The bell housing also had a hole in it that needed closing up. I disassembled the transmission and was able to cut through the ear leaving the cast in place gussets alone. I machined a new ear from a piece of 1/2" 6061 aluminum and mounted everything to the bell housing while I tacked in place. After tack welding it I unbolted it and pre-heated the case, then welded one side and the gussets, then let cool and did the same to the other. I immediately bolted it back to the bell housing and let cool. After completely cooling I disassembled and checked for warpage. It was only off by .002" and then I lapped it on a surface plate. I filed the edges down and ground the original step into the case before bead blasting and reassembling. The owner just picked it up about an hour ago and couldn't beleive it was the same trans. Thanks for looking, Mike.

I am agree that is really nice quality work, and I am glad to see someone fix the ****** rather than swap the case, shows you are a man of good quality work.

Nice job Mike, was it a big block engine?

Yes, it is behind a 396. I built the engine for him about 6 months ago. He has been looking for a trans and didn't notice the broken ear when he bought the trans. He was pretty upset until I told him I thought that I could fix it and no one would ever notice, especially after blasting and paint. Thanks for the compliments. Mike.
