Muratic Aicd and steel!?!? Concrete Prep

I have metal base-plates all around the perimeter of my new 1500sq ft shop...so how would I prep the concrete for a epoxy floor? It seems that using muratic acid would be out due its reaction with steel.

The concrete is new (8 weeks), so I really don't want to grind. Any other suggestions? Do I really need to do a prep on virgin concrete?

Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm about to undertake epoxying my floor, and I also have steel around the perimeter of my shop as well.

curious to see what I need to do also?

I'm no expert but I'd think tape and plastic would do the trick for protection.

The problem is the base plate is secured to the concrete so while tape/plastic would protect the top, when washing out the acid, it is bound to get under the plate.

I have the same question and haven't figured out a way to get around not getting acid underneath the base plates to where it may potentially eat away at the metal...subscribed.

Why not run a bead of caulk along that seam to somewhat "seal" the steel? Then your tape/plastic would be sufficient, I would think.

Orignial chips makes a product called Etch, n clean that I think is safe for metal contact and does not make the same acid fumes as MA.

Other choice sprinkle baking soda on all the metal. Then rinse everything as the baking soda will neutralize the solution. Good luck
