Downsizing from a 2 car garage means I have to reorganize a lot of **** and sell some stuff. Gotta work with what I have, so here is what I am starting with.
garage.jpg

Started with some cabinets.

A big thanks to Jack Olsen for the recommendation on what hinges to use for my welding table. Table is 4' x 2' and 3/16 thick.

The table will stay up against the wall without brackets but I needed some piece of mind.

Threw some clamps on the wall so I don't lose them.

Made a bracket to hold my filler rods
C3EB4B18-8481-463E-8A38-EF108456D5D9-692-0000007D2744DEF9.jpg

And here is where I am leaving things for the night.

More to come later.
The table with all the hardware and 1.5" legs and top, I have around $120-$130 invested in it. Cabinets I got from habitat for humanity for $80.

Rod holders were made from 1.5" DOM tubing welded together, and I took the scrap from the legs and cut a section out them cut them down the middle. Ideally if I can get a car in here that would be amazing but I just measured and it's way longer than expected.

Next on the list is to bring another cabinet from my old garage, tool box, welding carts (or make a smaller one), bench grinder, vice etc etc.
I want to make a swivel mount for the wall for the vice but need to research some options on that. Going to throw up another shelf and make a charging station for all my batteries and such.

More to come later. Stay tuned and opinions or suggestions are always recommended.

Like the welding rigs. Do you build frames/suspension components for mc's? I have a norton commando that I would like to put a custom lightweight box section swing arm on. Bill

Nice work! Dealing with a smaller space definitely requires more thought, but I think they can be just as useful. Looks like you've got some good ideas for making good use of the space.

Looks great!

Small spaces force you to be smart if you want to get anything done. And if you're not welding every day, a fold-down table makes a lot more sense than forever tripping over a big thing or letting the top of your table get cluttered up as storage.

I think the only thing I'd improve on is the latch to the wall. Then again, you've got the 2x4 acting as a spacer, so gravity will hold it in place no matter what. But I live in earthquake country, so I'd want something that couldn't shake loose.

No earthquakes here. It's very solid, I was pulling on it pretty hard and it didn't budge. What is annoying is mig welding on a table and having beads splatter on the table, so I had to take a flap wheel to it twice today.
Here is what I got done tonight.
Using my scrap metal I made spots for my el cheap0 angle grinders.
F72D8253-CE48-4C8D-8A55-0DBC227FE535-2065-0000012CFA010ABA.jpg

Built a stand for my HF porta band saw. Going to add one more brace. The saw slides in place and is nice and tight, however I can't lift it from the saw because it will slide out, so I'm going to add a bracket and bolt it to the saw and call it done.

Mounted the brackets for my rockwell bladerunner. Not a huge fan of these brackets but it shouldn't be going anywhere. Downside is with this saw I have to push down hard to prevent all vibration (then again before it was sitting ontop of the box it came in)

Tomorrows plans:
*Rewire an outlet for a dedicated 20 amp circuit.
*Figure out where to mount my power strips. Going to need one for my saws, and one by my sanders.

All the metal for the saw I used today was less than $20. 1.25" square stock, with .065 wall, and a piece of solid 1/2" rod on the side.

Terrace Supply

Youve got some nice stuff in there. Ill be following this thread.

Thanks.

Spent $50 at ACE Hardware today. Got a lot of L brackets, a new light socket with an external plug for another overhead light.
Huge up my small toolbox close to the garage door.

Put up a shelf, and also put 2 pieces of L brackets upside down and squeezed them closer together and now it holds all my scrap metal.

Put a light bulb in the garage door opener and that helped but still not enough light.
Bought a light socket with external plug (thing I said this already) and wired it up. It leaves about a 3/16" gap, so I may not have the right one. Going to have my dad look at it when he gets a chance.
After fighting to find a stud above my workbench and striking out because it seems to be at least 2 layers of drywall and my stud finder on deep scan couldn't read it. I bought some butterfly anchors and I hooks. Well the guy at the store gave me the wrong bolt so one of the anchors is forever lost above the drywall, and another trip to the store got me Thea larger one and I got the light hung up last night.

Today's garage objective: make mounts and hang up my beefy power strip.

Didn't like having this tool box on just 2 L brackets so I lowered it and added a shelf.
F8B87FE0-703E-46A2-A4C2-ECF4AFB5495C-4114-0000032D24672624.jpg

Had to fab up some brackets and spacers for the power strip, all mounted up.
It's really not pretty but something this big is hard to hide, at least it's easily accessable and next to the welding bench so I can plug my grinders and such in. The cord going to the right is for another power strip to power my bandsaw and bladerunner. Each extension cord/strip is using 12g wire so running one tool at a time will not be a problem, now that I have a dedicated 20 amp circuit.

Thanks. Open to suggestions if anyone has any.
Got another shelf hung up, this one went into the drywall and used some anchors.

Got my last cabinet from the old house and hung it on the wall.

And finally the garage can feel like home again now that I got my toolbox here. Had a perfect spot for it. It blocks the electrical panel but it's on wheels if I ever need to get back there.

With any luck, looking to get more work done this weekend. Possibly get more shelves from the old place as I am trying to do this on a super tight budget.
Then get some pegboard and redo the clamp area. Also need to figure out where to put all my 18v ryobi accessories.
Stay tuned.

I love it! For what I use it for and the price I can't complain! Also I don't have an air compressor so being built in is a must for me. Well i had one at he old place but not here.
The only time it has given me trouble was when it was plugged into an extension cord. Other than that 0 issues.
I used it to cut open a safe once and it did that really well to my surprise. Few times on some aluminum you may have to make an additional pass or just keep your hand more straight than mine :)

Not too much to update but I did get 2 small toys to help keep my area clean. A 18v ryobi leaf blower and a bucket head vacuum on a 5 gallon bucket. All it's for is to pick up metal shavings and blow the dust out if the garage.

Havne't really had much of a chance to do much more work. Things that have been changed though:

The table was too short so I raised it about 8 inches with some threaded rods and nuts and used the mig. First leg I must of welded it far too hot because it was a ***** to turn. The other leg turns beautifully. Well while turning the hard one I felt a disc in my back move and I was stuck on the floor. Trip to the dr later, and 2 steroid shots and I'm back on my feet. Not sure for how long before surgery but I'll do what I can and have to keep it simple as I can't lift more than 5 pounds at the moment.

So anyway, the table is raised.
The 92 gsxr is sold. It was really sad to see her to. :(

Picked up a second tank of argon to practice with back purging and seems every time I run out of gas it's a saturday afternoon or sunday.

Tonight I'm going to go to the store and see what I can find for some metal pegboard and put that on the wall to help clear up clutter. While it was ok to work with I was plasma cutting some metal and watching sparks fly towards the drywall. I didn't like this, so some metal pegboard and maybe some aluminum tape behind it will do the trick.

I also ordered a plasma cutting table and have an air compressor on the way :)
More pics to come soon I promise.

Also I spoke with the home owner and they have zero problems with me running a 220v circuit in the garage as long as it's up to code.

So my bench is a little cluttered and I didn't want to put more holes in the wall for my clamps and such.
Here is how it was when I got home:
63D6CDAC-ECEF-41D9-88D7-F7BE5B3730A4-243-0000000EE554C0A0.jpg

Bought 2 of these from menards and 1 box of universal hooks for a total of $60
960EE53D-7DAB-4462-9FC7-403998918270-243-0000000EE8D712EC.jpg

Put a hook on and then a clamp and took the clamp off and the hook came with it. Decided I didn't want to deal with it, so I hooked up the mig welder :D :D and tack welded each hook. What a great idea I had :)
63DDFE33-E744-4FB9-ADD2-6468CABDB245-243-0000000EEC9D511B.jpg

Vacuumed up all the **** and it still folds up no problem.

^^And you can see how I welded threaded rods to raise up the table. Still need to find some type of feet.

Down sizing does ****. Great use of space. We went from a 24x24 with a 24x8 garden shed to a 25x15 with a 8x10 shed... we sold some stuff too, but it makes you realize how much "stuff" you can collect.

Yes it does for sure! Its not a terrible thing though, it does help me get organized.
Hopefully the air compressor will show this weekend and I can start electrical work.

Haven't updated this much lately, but not much of an update.
Finally got my 220v installed. One for the welder and one for the heater. Moved the toolbox around, and cleaned up some ****. More pics to come later.

I've reviewed this thread many times, and I would like to congratulate you on maximizing your space. With your newly added 220V, I'm sure you will continue to make great use of your single. I'm thinking of picking up a Makita like the one you have hanging there. Are you happy with it?

Hah! Sounds like something I would do.

I dig the smaller shops. I'll be watching this one.

Thanks. I almost got my car to fit, was off by literally 3 inches.
I love my makita. I think it's a 10.8v drill and I have an impact. Love them!

Wait till ya have so many tools you need to roll out part of your shop to work in it lol, I too have my outside shop in a single bay garage.

I Like the steel peg board, whats the thickness of it?
I just might have to go and get some.

I haven't a clue to be honest, but I'll check it out next time I go to menards. Should be sometime this week.
I'm getting crowded already; now need to make room for a 60 gallon air compressor.

No idea on the thickness, probably 18gauge if I had to guess. Maybe 16g, but I don't see it being thicker than that. This is what it looks like.
