Herb,

It's a small world.

Camp Grayling is still in operation.
I have memories of Grayling also.
The summer before my junior year of high school I worked at a summer camp for kids in Grayling, Camp Au Sable.
When we would get a rare break from all the activity, we would go into town.
Soldiers would always be hanging out at the drive-in we would go to.
Funny it's been so many years, I don't remember the name of the drive-in.

I also worked in Traverse City at a cherry canning factory the next summer.

Take care,

I bet it was Wimpy's

Small world. Camp Au Sable is a great place.

Before the garage was built, we were discussing wants / needs with the contractor.
He asked if we wanted windows in the garage door. He said for very little more we could have them.
We said who needs windows a garage door.....

Fast forward a few months and my wife and I were discussing aesthetics... I mean curb apeal.
We agreed that a overhead door panel with windows would dress up the garage.
We first of all searched Craigslist for just the windows, even made an early morning 100 mile round trip to purchase a pair.
Got home, held them up to the door, and decided they were too big for our door.

We ended up going to the contractor's supplier and ordered a single panel with the windows factory installed in it.
It came in about a week later, and my wife helped me install it.
It's up high enough that the drive by person can't see whats inside. The Liftmaster 8500 door opener incorporates a deadbolt lock so a thief can't easily gain access just by breaking a window. It lets in alot more light that what you would think.
We like how it looks.

What do you think?

I like it . It just the right character that goes along with your house.

Did you add Xmas icicle lights to the garage? I am on my phone so that what it looks like.

And did you put a lights up in the top of the gable end? Or is it just the shadow of something? Phones are not the best picture .

Love the Vega...it's pretty cool!
Surprised you didn't go big and get at least a 2 1/2 car garage or even a 3 car.
Any regrets???

Yes, we put up some LED icicle lights.

No additional lights. It was just starting to snow some of the largest snowflakes I have ever seen when I took the picture.
I think that is what you are seeing.

I wish we would have built 20' x 24'.
I live in the city on a small plot, so realistically the largest build that would have left any back yard would have been 20' x 24'.

I really like the car, garage, and how you are making it your own!

Are the hood and fenders fiberglass? How much does that car weigh and what engine is in there? I have a Vega but it is rough shape...

Hood is glass, fenders are steel.

I'm not sure what it weighs. I took it to a truck stop with supposedly just serviced certified scales several years ago. The weigh slip said 34XX & something.
I told the cashier NO WAY it weighs that much. She insisted, I wasn't going to argue.
The engine is a tired old 350.

Got any pics of yours?

Here's a couple of old pics of mine.

That is a super clean Vega and a nice looking V-8 Swap. I sent this thread to my mechanic, who is from Niles. I was back there a couple years ago hauling some rust free El Camino doors back to a friend of his. He has been out west here for about ten years.
I think it is cool the way you use the wheel sets to move the Vega over for winter storage. A great use of the space you have, allowing you to keep your daily ride inside. Sure beats scraping those windows!

Jon,

You should add this one to the Garages at Night thread after a new snow fall and all the outside lights are on before you plow or shovel the pavement.

Yes, it's nice to not have to clean the snow off the truck when I need to go out.

What a great improvement over the old and quite amazing that you can fit both vehicles in there. Good lighting is always a good thing no matter your age. I'm only 40 and think at times my isn't bright enough. LOL Great place and looking foward to more update.[emoji106]

Have a good one Gerard

Who knows?
Looks great man. Much nicer than the old garage.

Gotta say though, that poster had the Navy's rank structure, not the Marine Corps'.

Thanks for the kind words Gerard!

Good lighting is very important to me.
I've taken a bit of razzing from some of my family because of what is deemed overkill in the lighting department.
I found out along time ago at work if I have good lighting I can always do a better job.

We have had some milder weather here in the last couple of weeks.
I am temporarily parking the daily driver outside so I can move stuff (including the Vega) away from the walls so I can get some insulation installed.

I'm doing it 2 or 3 batts at a time when I have free time.

I told you it is rough but here it is:

It is really solid, and I have the glass for it... It was stored inside so it is not too bad. I have it in my barn staying dry there. It came to me with a Buick 215 All alum engine, and 200R4 trans but I was planning to swap in a Turbo 3.8 from a GN that I have in the shed. I have been too busy with other cars to get to it, but I will one day.

Guess how much my Skylark weighs? 3150 with me in it

There is a recent thread on here in the garage section where the owner was looking to add insulation. Someone told him to do the walls and the finished ceiling and then use blown in insulation above the ceiling to get a higher value. You might use that option for you ceiling areas before they get filled with stored items. Thread was past week.
