Making some solid progress in there. Nice job! I think the black could work with the appropriate amount of light. I remember always wanting black in my bedroom as a kid. I did a couple sections of black in my old garage just for fun.

How random, just read your brothers garage thread and then this one consecutively, was wondering why it was very similar in its design.

Looking good so far!

Love your place! Between you and your brother, I am seriously considering fabbing up a custom workbench. Great work.

I also love your rides.

Nice work - garage is coming together nicely - well thought-out!

NICE looking shop!
Thanks Guys!

Making some solid progress in there. Nice job! I think the black could work with the appropriate amount of light. I remember always wanting black in my bedroom as a kid. I did a couple sections of black in my old garage just for fun.

Now that I think about it, black might not be worthwhile... I originally thought, because its a ceiling it would not affect the lighting, but having it white certainly increases over all lumens. Also I managed to score a 5 gallons of white for free

Love your place! Between you and your brother, I am seriously considering fabbing up a custom workbench. Great work.

Do it! This type of bench is so easy to assemble! Once I get some stain and paint on it, they'll look a lot better as well.

How random, just read your brothers garage thread and then this one consecutively, was wondering why it was very similar in its design.

Looking good so far!

My brother is one to dissect everything down to the last screw/bolt before doing anything. I have also spend many hours in my brothers garage and the benches really worked for me, so it was a no brainer to copy/paste. His color selection though... :shocking: :p I'll probably copy that too! haha

Not much of an update, because -30 for the last two weeks, but today the sun came out and it hit -8, so I decided to play around with some large bodied vehicles to see what kind of room there is. Here are both beaters jammed in:
IMG_6784.jpg

IMG_6786.jpg

IMG_6785.jpg

IMG_6787.jpg

I thought the Eight was going to be tight end to end, but there is still room for some hammering.
IMG_6788.jpg

Ever since looking at this house, I've been skeptical about the fitment. But after today, I am very happy with the fitment.
Not that both of those vehicles will be parked in there either. It'll be the Eight with the wife's Civic instead of the Regal during the winter period.
:D

It is always great to see that you can fit any combination of your vehicles in the garage, I know my truck is SUPER tight in my garage but I rarely bring it in anyway so it is not an issue.

Pulled the trigger on how to go about storing some wheels:
IMG_6861.jpg

IMG_6862.jpg

IMG_6866.jpg

Brackets were super easy to install. While going vertical or open face isnt the norm for storage, my justification is that it adds a bit a unique touch to the whole place, I love displaying wheels :) The top one does need a step ladder to get at, but its not the end of the world. And dont worry, those wheels do not belong to the Eight.

Something I noticed during the -30*C weather for 3 weeks, was this:
IMG_6757.jpg

IMG_6764.jpg

Porcelain is slated for the floor and baseboard, and wondering if this will affect the adhesion of a kerabond thinset?

Imagine how much room you would have in there if your "beater" was a B5 A4. An extra foot and a half probably :)

Seems like a lot of frost. Are there any gaps down there?

BTW I'm liking those wheels hangers. A few people near me have them but they aren't being used properly. Not the same effect with crappy rusty steelies hahaha.

I agree with dubber, check for gaps, although if there are any they may be frozen shut!

I checked out the dimensions because I thought you over shot, but its actually 20" difference

That location is the base of a steel column, and the base plate is grouted, which I think is where some air is coming in. I also kind of think that the base of the garage door wasnt 100% just being a garage door. But the condensation on the rest of the curb had me guessing, maybe I need to seal the curb before applying the floor finish?

BTW I'm liking those wheels hangers. A few people near me have them but they aren't being used properly. Not the same effect with crappy rusty steelies hahaha.
My set up looks good now, come the summer when the wheels are on the civic, I'll have nothing to throw up there other than steelies :shocking:

Nice garage setup. Some suggestions, since for me it's all about having space to open doors on either side of the car.
-I went to Cohens and got some sliding cabinets and put them along the back wall. I can fit all my extra tools and liquids in there. You would be able to get rid of your bench that goes along the side of the garage with this since they would hold everything you have on that and you wouldn't see any containers.
-Proslat wall storage from Costco (I got it on sale when you get the hook kits included). You will be able to store all your rakes, shovels, brooms, hockey sticks and whatever you have and then change it all around when you get more tools or change seasons and bring your snow shovels out. You don't need to completely cover the wall with the stuff, just enough to be able to have a variety of hooks and different levels all around the garage. Then you aren't poking new holes everytime you get something new, and it looks pretty clean.
-Tire storage - I like your setup but for me it was again getting stuff away from ground level. I found those red powdercoated tire storage racks from costco. You could put one where your top wheel is stored and fit all 4 out of the way or use the ones you have and put them up along the top of the wall.
Really nice workbenches and lighting setup on yours. It will be nice with a heater in there.

We finally had some weather that allowed for painting and staining!

Thanks for the suggestions F1. I noticed some rolling bench in the 'show your bench' thread, but I never liked the idea of it being able to move while whaling on something. I just have an insecurity about none fixed benches I guess. I wont be addding anything else to the side walls other than upper cabinets, so it will stay pretty open overall.

I do like that Proslat system, and am considering it for the spades and forks. It'll probably go just a head of where my ladder is, which is completely random for the moment.

On to the pictures:
Painted the framing and stairs grey, more white on the walls:
IMG_7297.jpg

Stained/sealed the plywood tops with a polycrylic, 7 coats plus sanding between:
IMG_7301.jpg

IMG_7300.jpg

The brothers just hanging out:
IMG_7302.jpg

Still some work yet to happen, but glad the tops are finally sealed :) things should start moving quicker from here on out.

Nice to have the S4 home. You driving it around now?
Not really, just took it out the other day to do some errands, but that's it. I have a pile of maintenance to do it before assigning it to full time duty. Man do I miss that note of the V8... Pulling it out of storage is like rediscovering the car again, kind of like when I took it home for the first time, :3gears:

Now get rid of that shovel hahaha.
You never know with mother nature these days!!!!

Added a hot hose bib:
5442.jpg

I washed the Buick already with it, and is it ever nice to have hot water while hovering at 10*C out.

I also hooked up my state of the art computer from 1998:
IMG_7315.jpg

IMG_7320.jpg

The computer itself is hanging just below the monitor with some brackets and threaded rod. Still need to clean up the wiring, cut the rods, and get some internet to it. Soon I'll have access to all the Bentley manuals at my finger tips and GJ!!:)

Adding the line was super easy, when I was done, I thought, thats it?

I dont know if your house has pex or copper lines, but mine is run with pex, which made it a 45 minute install. I spent more time planning it out, than actually executing. If you have copper, it just means you have to be a little more precise with cuts and connections are soldered.

Here is the line in the basement, top right is where I tapped into and then far left upper line is the hot to the garage:
IMG_7348.jpg

I located my hot water line(the one on the left), cut into it, slipped in a T fitting and clamped it in:
IMG_7349.jpg

Ran the parallel to the cold(Hot is upper line), to a bleeder valve in the same area as the cold:
IMG_7350.jpg

Then made the connection to the hose bib:
IMG_7351.jpg

As for the hose bib install, I simply cored a ~1" hole beside the existing one, figured out my wood plate, and I caulked the stem of the hose bib as I pushed into its final position to make a seal.

Let me know if you have any questions, or need to borrow tools, the crimper is 55 bucks. I also have some left over elbows, Ts and valves from other renovations if you need.

Hey guys, been pretty quiet on my garage progress. I got carried away with some maintenance on my S4...
Before:
IMG_7662.jpg

During. Intake manifold flapper needed some maintenance and some preventative oil check valves replaced that are sitting under the intake:
IMG_7731.jpg

After:
IMG_7976.jpg

quick photoshop:
Untitled-1_1.jpg

So far the garage is relatively functional, probably would have made more sense to drive the car straight in, but will know for next time.
Bench held up great to some smashing, brake cleaner and just greasy parts:
IMG_7851.jpg

So nice to spread out!
Thats it for now, cant wait to get the S back on the road to drive it and continue in the garage :)

Looks good. I had to do the same thing for my intake manifold flaps. How are those timing chain guides holding up?

Holy, I just breezed through your build thread, I'll have to sit down and read it one of these nights. Nice work on the swap!
As for my chains, there is a <1second rattle occasionally on cold start ups, but not under warm start up. Having 91,000km/56xxxmiles on it helps. But it will certainly be on my list of things to do within three years.
How is your swap holding up?

Wow, its been a while, time for an update! A lots has happened.
Finished with the S in the early spring:
IMG_8537.jpg

IMG_8509.jpg

Swapped my S with my brother's E34 for a week just because we love each others vehicles :D
IMG_8788.jpg

Somewhere along this summer, my wife convinced me to paint an accent wall green. I wanted glut orange, but I settled for variation of monster green:
IMG_9032.jpg

I like...for now...

Hung, plumbed, and wired the heater. Still need to install the exhaust for it to be fully commissioned. Surprisingly without the heater on, when its -20*C out, the inside of the garage is still 0*C.
IMG_9033.jpg

Then jumped on the long list for winter prepping the A8, timing belt, struts/springs, control arms, oil cooler re/re, CV boots, intake gaskets, rotors/pads, PS line, etc. You know, the basics.
IMG_9098.jpg

The S wanted nothing to do with this :willy_nil

I got tired of looking at a messy tool chest...
IMG_8905.jpg

and decided to finally commit to hanging a bunch of them.
IMG_8913.jpg

I also found some LED pot lights that dimensionally fit my needs and were on sale too! Painted the upper shelf to clean the whole thing up:
IMG_9034.jpg

The wife said she was done with her civic and wanted something AWD, leather and nice like my S. Was looking at something newer, but didnt like all the TFSI issues and oil consumption issues 2007+ are plagued with. Managed to convince her on this low mile 2005 A4 3.0 v6 auto unit, only 73000km/45000mile:
IMG_9373.jpg

IMG_2230.jpg

We're a full on VAG family now!

Kept working on the Eight:
IMG_0231.jpg

Finally mobile before snow fall, only took six months :/
IMG_0307.jpg

Safetied, e-tested, insured and plated:
IMG_0631.jpg

Outfitted with some tasty presidential pie plates wrapped in 255 Blizzak LM-60s! No disrespect to my '03 Buick Regal but I cannot believe I waited this long to get into an AWD vehicle for the winter. Its been a blast so far.

Other than the exhaust for the heater, nothing is really scheduled for the garage until the spring. Will be focusing work on basement related organizing and other boring things.

I like the new Audi addition to your expanding fleet. The Winter wheels on the A8, what size are they? They look like a smaller version of the Monoblocks, which when chromed up look beautiful.

Thanks!
They are 18", they happen to be monoblocks as well. They are kind of polished, but seem to have lost their shine. I've seen some finished with gunmetal inserts and a machined face, and they looked wicked. I thought about doing the same, but then snapped back to reality and remembered, these are my winter set up.

Looks like I have some catching up to do in your thread!

Thread bump, let's see some updates. A few posts ago the garage looked almost clean, you've probably had a lot of time to get everything squared away and put back where it belongs?

Also seeing your hot water hose bib pictures reminded me I have to do the same at my place if I'm going to be washing cars in these freezing temps :p

Hahaha, seems like a little sarcasm is being thrown his way. Barry i also need to do the hot water line. I'll eagerly wait for your documentation of the process. :bounce:

Dubber, only a bit of sarcasm :p

I'll make sure to post pics when I run the hot water line. I was going to check my pex and fitting inventory last night and hit HD today, but forgot!

I know Blake is a busy guy, juggling several major projects at the same time, so I'll help him with some updated photos:
