My 1st epoxy experience

Guys I just epoxied my 3 car garage at my new house. The concrete floor was about a year old, clean, never driven on, no oil spots, just dirt and sawdust from the construction. I pressure washed and acid etched it twice. I also used Epoxy Shield Concrete Patch to fill in the cracks I already had and sanded them, as I read the forum and seemed the consensus was not to use caulk. I decided to also spend the money and put down Devoe penetrating primer.

The primer was an experience. I put it down at night and started in the back corner. As I went from one side of the garage to the other, the primer was drying in the back of the garage. When I got to front of the garage, it didn't seemed to be drying. I didn't think anything about it, just chalked it up to it getting cooler outside at night with the doors cracked. When I got up the next morning (base coat day), the front of the garage was just as wet as the night before. Guess I put it on a little too thick towards the front. Finally got the floor dry enough for the base coat that night. It went on just fine. Added the color chips. Then clear coated the next day. Here are a couple of pics.

Oh yeah, almost forgot to say that the epoxy that I decided to go with was Epoxy-Coat.

I was pleased with the outcome. I am kind of a perfectionist and I can always find things I wished I would have done differently or better. I wished I would have ordered more color chips. I thought I had plenty, didn't even use all that was sent. They are nice for texture and once you put on the clear coat, it takes away some of that texture and makes it slick except if you really go heavy on the chips. It is very slick in some spots where I went overboard with the clear coat and light on the chips. In the 3rd pic, there is one rectangular area that seems to be either thin with the clear coat or I missed completely, which I don't really see how I completely missed it. You can see that in the pic directly above the drain and between the drain and support beam. I am a little concerned about that area. Overall, I am happy with it and glad I did it myself. Just hope it holds up.

Looks great! Usually it's the guy doing the application that notices all the little imperfections. I bet if your neighbors took a look they would think it was perfect. Smart move using the primer.

the pics look good!....I was surprised how consistent the flakes were for someone who has not thrown for yrs...good job! As to leaving a "holidays" in the clear coat, it happens to the best of us! It can be touched up and blended in!

looks good!

Nice work! Just wondering how much square feet your 3 car garage is and whether you went with 1 full kit, 1.5 kits, or 2 full kits. How many gallons of primer did you use?
