I would like to share my positive experience with Frank and his website. Even though I waited about 3.5 weeks for my order to arrive from his location to mine in So Cal I am pleased with my purchase and will continue to buy more in tools from him in the near future. Here are a few pics, enjoy:

What is the purpose of the black ring around the bottom?

Plays the same role as a little bit of knurling. Something to pull against or to prevent it from slipping out of your hand. Their 3/8 drive and 1/2 drive sockets have it as well.

There is absolutely nothing positive about waiting 3.5 weeks on anything from anywhere. Frank is the most unreliable seller on this site.

Sweet breaker bars though.
Is this the same Frank that was selling koken? If so I used him in the past, but it was a wait.

Although I can see your point and I am not saying you are wrong in this matter; but it seems to me at least that (1) not many people are selling that brand of tool in the USA. and (2) I can see it taking a long time to move that product from Japan to the USA.

On the other hand if we had a ton of people selling their products then yes I can see that most people would be rather upset over the long wait.

Not sure where the op is from, but if I were in his/her shoes I would be buying tools that came from the country that I lived in; or tools that would be easier to buy before I would be looking at harder tools to come by.

If it takes 3 weeks, it just means he doesn't stock it?

Why not just order from Japan...? Just for arguments sake

It sounds like that Frank's orders are financing his inventory ordering, so to speak. If we have to wait 3 or 4 weeks, where is the value added of having a local seller? You might as well just order it direct from a seller in Japan!

Good point, while looking at their web-site it looks like you could place an order. Did you read their warranty darn I want their lawyers in case I ever get arrested.

I'd never defend an American biz but Frank has to deal with the bureaucracy of both Japan-----AND----the worlds biggest. USA...in order to bring you tools at somewhere near sane levels at low volume.
Try it ! You'll seek Prozac.
Wallllmart is easy. HF is too. Everything else.........well.......not so much.

The whole point is, Frank's markup is supposed to add value, such as the cost of having inventory in stock, dealing with customs, etc.

If I am not getting these value-adds, I might as well order from where he is ordering it and save the markup!

I love Snap-On tools and have quite a bit. But I wasn't going to pay $30-$40 for a 12" Snap-On breaker bar used on eBay... And Snap-On doesn't even make a 15" 3/8" dr bar..

yeah, but you've also got

https://nepros.net/

The only problem with ordering direct from here is I was not going to pay $20 for just shipping. I paid just over $100 shipped for both to my door from FranksTools.com

For the 15" bar alone Nepros has it $80 and some change... You do the math and you'll know why I'm so pleased with my experience.

Buying tools or anything from Japan is no different than buying any internationally shipped product... EMS shipping from Japan is very quick ~1 week and is handled through USPS... so there is no brokerage charges and hassle involved. The product simply arrives and you pay customs.

I bring alot of auto performance products in monthly, and never had a issue.

BTW what is the benefit a 3/8 breaker bar offers over a ratchet? I have a 30+ year old snappy 3/8 breaker bar in my box I found and have never used.

What markup are you saving? I haven't purchased but his prices seem equal to if not lesser than most other sellers.

I've seen a few complaints levied against Frank here, some are reasonable (primarily the lack of communication), others are not. Its a 1 man show and he is offering these items for sale on the side of his regular full time job. Anyone who can do it better step up, until then :dunno:.

I have no doubt he stocks only a limited number of items and special orders most of it as the orders come up.

Just so everyone here is aware...Ko-ken USA has an Amazon store...they are trying to pull a fast one with their distributors (I.E Frankstools) so you can buy them below distributor costs for real cheap...just search Koken USA on amazon...

Frankstools only orders from them in bulk so if you need a tool or two go there...

I placed an order with Franks for 10 items on 12/24; iirc he shipped 12/29, I received it 1/7. I thought this was acceptable, and he also had the best prices i found. Yes, its not Tooltopia, but I wasn't in a rush.

Frankstools is completely pointless. He charges about 30% more than rakuten and it's the same damn shipping delay. I'd go so far as to call his business deceptive because his site doesn't state that he's shipping from overseas and even tries to cover it up by saying " I ship using U.S Priority mail" when he really mean's shipping EMS.

What is the purpose of the black ring around the bottom?

As far as I can see it's to colour code tools for tool control purposes!

If your outfit is into that, and they have say 4 similar tool sets on a ramp, they will be colour coded and all the tools from the yellow set will have a yellow ring painted on!

Some parts of the U.K. military do this, and the tools (I've seen Proto amongst others) have a groove for a plastic ring!

If you look in the Nepros literature it shows their tools with red, and yellow rings too. There are probably other colours, but rather than omit the groove for private purchase tools they simply put a black ring on!
