Today I was on the opposite side of town and drove by a lowes that ive never been to. I banged a u-ey and decide to check out their tool selection. I found a set of metric and standard kobalt stubbies. They are, as many of you know, on clearance for ten buck a set. Even at full price, these wrenches are a great deal. What I love about them is you can buy addition pieces seperately and not skip sizes. The only thing I dont like is the metric set starts off at 12 mm. no 10mm. other than that I believe kobalt wrenches are probably the best value in wrenches out there.

Lots of value in these sets, but unless they are a good deal (and yours was dang good!), I don't think that I will be buying them. They've changed manufacturers what, three times?, in the last 5 years... each time a down turn in quality and COO. They may have found their happy medium here in the cheap yet Taiwanese arena, or if you have a warranty issue in a year you might find an even different company on the made by line.

The lack of a stubby 10 bothered me too, until I realized that my craftsman regular 10 mm was basically the size of the largest stubby. That will probably be good enough for me.

Thanks for the heads up on these. I've always been torn on stubby wrenches. On the one hand I've never found a real need for them or even a big desire to have a set but on the other hand I've noticed a lot of people have them so I've thought to myself that maybe I'm missing something?

Still, I wasn't sodl enough to spend any real money on them but at a $1.66 a piece, what the hell, they are worth a try. Kind of the same thing with Kobolt tools in general. This is the first time buying anything with the Kobolt name on it but again, at this price and w/ a lifetime warranty, what the hell?

I do agree that I wish they covered a wider range of sizes, especially in SAE. I did picked up both 6pcs sets (SAE and Metric) and also the 18 and 19mm's while I was there. Those last 2 wrenches ended up costing almost as much as both 6pcs sets! ;)

Yep, all validate points. Normally, I'm the kind of guy who does buy things he does need, even when its just a good deal. But I just couldn't pass these up, even though I have a full set of gearwrench ratcheting stubbies. For twenty bucks, they were just too pretty to sit on the shelf. The quality of these wrenches are on par with wrenches costing much more. They may be imported but I believe they are nicer than some of my other usa made wrenches and light years beyond those chinese crab claw junk wrenches called craftsman.
