Been a GJ reader for a few years, admiring all the great builds, ideas and pix here. After moving from NJ to NC, finally got my chance to build my detached garage to house my toys, tools and work area.

Build is basically done, started the second week of July, though I have not posted any pix yet. Bear with me as I do.

Great looking build. I like all the angles and the upstairs. Nice job matching the house. What's the plan for upstairs?

Thanks for the comments glider. No solid plans though probably will have a small area for exercise eqt. Mostly for storage and an extra work / painting area. BTW also a Pontiac guy, garage will store my '66 GTO. Thinking of naming the building the "Tiger's Den" :)

I love those custom garages with a built in space above. Very nice!

Any plans for the inside decor yet?:)

Sorry for the quality of the next several pix, taken with my phone. My wife had the camera on a trip back to Joisey this week.

GarageBuild033.jpg

Hardi plank went up pretty quick. The yellow color is primer, how it comes delivered. The dormer will get shakes, also made of the hardi plank material.

And here it is, basically done. It was hard to get each step since these guys moved pretty fast.We had some extra concrete work done, a path from the garage to our screened in porch. To the left is an extra concrete pad in front of the attached 8x12 storage shed. It's ceiling is nice n high, plenty of room to hang my lawn tractor attachments. Pix to follow.

GarageBuild038.jpg

Front view. New concrete to allow the drive to meet the garage. To the left is an access door to the stairway to the loft, which can be accessed from inside the garage as well. Early in the drywall stage. I have access to under the stairs, and I'll locate my air compressor there and pipe out the air lines. At the right rear, there is a 4'x6' section where I will locate a work bench.

View from the street. I'll take better pix with my digital camera soon.

The original design plan for the second floor included a kitchenette and bathroom, which I didnt want. I may stud out one room, but it'll be open for storage mostly.

Have plans of Ulti-Mate cabinets, 2 tone wall with a stripe. I also have alot of original Pontiac ads from magazines that I framed years back which used to hang in my office. Some other Pontiac stuff for the walls as well. Also have some photos and trophies from my drag racing days.

I really like how it looks like it belongs there. Mine doesn't have that look...

Thanks all. My property line is actually 10 feet to the right of the garage. The lot is what drew us to this house, on a 3/4 acre.

Wish I had some inside shots to share, but alas, it has been so busy lately. Finally had time to get the fence reconfigured and installed, less the gate which had to be ordered, so the doggies can run again.

I will eventually do the floor, paint the walls and install some cabinets...when is the question

Whoa! That's tight. In my county there is a 15' easement and my neighborhood has an ADDITIONAL 25' easement so I had to be at least 40' from the property line. I can't imagine why there would ever be a need for an 80' easement between two properties out here but luckily I've got 10 acres so it's not that big of a deal. I can't imagine being 10' from my neighbors yard but I guess you work with what you've got. Once again, nice looking place!

And by the way, I had an invisible fence installed about a year and a half ago for my dogs. Expensive, but worth the peace of mind.

Finally got some pix together, though they are taken with my phone.

Since I posted last, I have:

Did the floor with tinted sealer, did the ceiling and walls with semi-gloss white
Assembled a Seville Classic workbench, wall cabinets and floor cabinets.
Hung my framed Pontiac ads and other prints
Adding a counter in the rear corner

Sorry for the mess, still work in progress. I'll add pix as I go along.

I am in the process of getting a couple estimates for a garage now. I totally changed my mind about what I wanted after seeing this one. I would love to see some pictures of the upstairs!

Awesome garage, What Brand of sealer did you use on the floor?

I used H&C tinted sealer from Sherwin Williams. Did 2 coats. This stuff re-wets every time so each coat bonds to the the previous. May not be as strong as epoxy but it's easily touched up. Had the car in and out a bunch, no hot tire lift. Oil / gas have not penetrated yet.

I caught a sale at SW, plus when you sign up online with them they send you coupons via email.

Finally got a chance to add some pix of the second floor. Unfinished for now it's the basement we had in our previous house and adds about 350 Sq Ft.

Had some time to take some good pix with the camera when the garage was empty today. It's getting there. Still have some more storage to work on, hanging some brackets for the sawhorses, and adding some shelves in the closet, and finishing the drywall around the door opening. I think I'm going for the rolling cabinet that fits under the workbench to store some smaller items.

I appreciate the comments all...

I like the Seville cabinets. The wall cabinets went together and hung easily. I installed 2 - 1x4's on the wall first, then mounted the Seville easy hang brackets on them, thought it would make it all more solid. I'm going to purchase an extra shelf for each one as they only come with one.

The wall stripe is comprised of separate vinyl floor tape sections. A 4" blue, 1" checker flag, 1" gray, and 1/4" black. I originally only wanted the blue / gray, but since the tape was cheap I bought some other types to experiment with. Before I knew it, I had laid out this design, and surprisingly I liked it. It went up pretty easily. The cool thing is each layer can hide any previous layer's deviation should the wall be off or you screw up

The 4" blue was the only shade they sold, and is real close to matching the color of my car, so I lucked out.

Thanks - did you buy the floor tape at a flooring place or some specialty vendor?

Cheap is good...

Obviously, cool shop.
