Do you know of any other tool brands from India? Is this the "Pros" choice of brand over there? I don't know anything about Taparia or India made tools. I do have a few older wrenches made in India that are really well made. Just curious.

Taparia socket sets are well made and good quality. Pliers are also good. I have both 1/4" and 3/8" drive socket set from taparia.
I will list all other Indian made tool brands for you here, I will list then out for you.

That's a nice set..thanks for sharing. My first set of wrenches were from India (MAXIT..are they still around..?).. Bought them from a Western Auto store when i was 14 , with paper route money.. Still have them in the metal clip they came in.. Me and those wrenches took apart, and fixed alot of bikes..lots of good times..they were my prized possession ..lol. And now i wouldn't trade them old India wrenches for everything on the SO truck. I'm also curious ..are Taparia the choice of Pros's there...? I always wonder what the "good stuff" is in other countries..?

In 1982, I received a set of Gedore wrenches for x-mas. They were made in India. Not the best quality, but they worked. Occasionally, the jaws would slip or flex if I needed to bear down, but I used those wrenches for work for nearly 20yrs. Still have them out in the garage box (missing 1). The only reason I keep them is for sentimental value, they were a gift from my mother back when we were flat broke. They weren't expensive, but she still had to save pennies to afford them.

Taparia Tools are most common available, best quality amongst Indian brands and are affordable. They are available at any shop. I also purchased 3 jaw gear puller and a centre punch recently. will post the pic

Mechanics here use tools provided by employers, if I talk about OEM service stations. Independent mechanics use mix of majorly Indian brands. Everytime I took my car for service, mechanics use chrome sockets of air impacts everytime. I have not seen impact socket yet.

Once I went for distillation column upgradation job and saw powermaster impact sockets used by maintenance team there. Later when I checked, I came to know its an Indian brand.

There are other brands too for hand tools, like
http://www.venus-india.com
http://www.eastmanhandtools.com
http://www.gbtools.in
http://www.hrhandtools.com/ - this is the brand used in oldtimer magazine test and came 2nd best after Hazet costing 1euro for 13mm wrench.

There are few other brands too, but the above ones are easily available here.

With all the ship breaking on the south coast of India they have a ready supply of good quality steel to recycle.

I have a set of Indian raised panel wrenches in use and zero complaints. They just do what a wrench should, every time.
I had more than my share of the Gedore stuff and there was no problem selling it for profit after using them at work. Good solid stuff really.

Quality can come from anywhere if someone cares enough to try. India is no exception.

I had a Gedore wrench set years ago. Not sure how many of them I still have but I know I have a coupe at least. Gedore was a brand that was imported into America. They were a cheap brand. Don't why more of them and other Indian brands aren't imported.

Looks like a King Tony set. I wonder if Taparia is making the King Tony also.

Gedore is a German brand and is generally quite good. However back in the '80s? Gedore had many wrenches made by an Indian firm and those were not as good as German production.

You think India depends on steel from ship recycling?

Dependent, I do not know.

Common mix.recycled steel can vary wildly in properties dependant on how much is low grade or impurities from other metals. Ship steel is more consistent quality by far and rhe supply is better..

The India wrenches I have and had seem to reflect that and were or are less apt to spread and resist wear better. That is why I have no fear putting them into tough work nor buying them instead of more expensive brands
Take pride in a good product. I do and use then daily.
