Hello everyone!

After 6 years of owning my home, I have started to build my dream garage.

I had the backyard graded where an above ground pool used to be, removed 2 trees and had shale brought in for a base for the building.

I went with a 30'X32' pole building from Pioneer Pole Buildings. I had originally planned to go 30' X 40' but the township makes it very difficult to build a garage over 1000 sq/ft. So 30'X32' (960 sq/ft) it is.

The building has 2 10' X 10' garage doors installed. The concrete was poured at 5" thick. Before the concrete was poured, I put in a 4" and a 2" piece of conduit so i can run electric and water.

I had an existing sidewalk from my patio out to where the pool used to be. I asked that the man door to the garage be lined up to the sidewalk. They were about 18" off center and I am currently fighting with them to widen the sidewalk to make it line up with the door.

I am now tasked with installing the electrical and water lines followed by insulation and drywall before I coat and finish the floor.

I have purchased 18, 4' LED shop lights. Can never have too much light!

I am hoping to have this done by fall, all advice is appreciated.

Thank you!

Looks pretty-good. I think I'd just widen the entry area at the exterior passageway door and let it go at that. Not sure what code says about the entry size, but I expect 6" either side of the door opening, and a 4' pad from the building would be plenty.

What types of bikes to reside there, new, old, a mix, brands, road, off-road?

Nice....You call it a Motorcycle garage, are you going to be doing a side business or just for your bikes? What about climate control, what are you thinking about that?

That's exactly my plan. Just even up the other side.

I currently own a 2013 Ducati Monster Anniversary Edition, 2012 Kawasaki Concours and a 1975 Honda Goldwing. In 2021 I'll be going cross country with a buddy on KLR650's for our 30th birthdays.

I just plan on having it for my bikes and maybe a little side work. As far as climate control goes, I picked up a 40,000 BTU pellet stove but I'm not sure how to efficiently cool the building.

Can you live with just ventilation...down here I had to have A/C so I put a 18000 btu mini split.
You can always get you a couple big window units ...ceiling fans...

That may be tough. There's no windows only a ridge vent. I may look into the mini split but I'm concerned with how much power it may use.

I leave my mini split running on 80 degrees this summer and I bump it down when I need it cooler.
2 bikes here 07 Electra Glide owned since new, 103000 miles on her, Transplanted a new motor on it 2 years ago cuz I got a great deal. Just got a 03 V Star 1100 I picked up for $1000, will be ready to ride by the weekend.
Looking for a early to mid 80s KZ900-1100 for a future resto.

Ever use the kick-start on the Gold Wing?

Gonna use a windscreen on your cross-country trip? I expect you would prefer the protection you get, especially if the weather turns nasty. Unless you intend to do offroad riding, the Concours sounds much-more comfortable and suitable for cross-country use. You gotta couple years, anyway.

I'm definetly going to look into the mini split, seems like it needs professional installation though.

103K, that's some good riding! I've only managed about 8K since April, work keeps getting in my way.

$1000 for that V Star, you stole it!! Good luck finding the KZ, they're becoming hard to find.

Kick start is my favorite way to start the wing! For a 1000cc bike with good compression, it's effortless.

I should have clarified, we will be riding the Trans-America Trail. Picking it up in Tennessee and riding to Oregon all offroad aside from stopping in town to get fuel and supplies. We are taking 30 days to do this route, we have to average 150+ miles a day.

The trail ride sounds like a fun time. Guess a windscreen would end up broken the first spill you take. Guessing you aren't having anyone paralleling your itinerary for assistance if needed?

Here's a KZ1000 being built in my friend's shop but it's not a restoration. It's coming along pretty-well, the engine was cases split and everything needing addressing was done, then re-assembled. Not a hot-rod, going together for longevity and a unique appearance. All work including machining done by the shop or their machinist, who used to be a machinist for Crane Cams, as-was his father. His main stock in trade is Porsche engine mods and offshore powerboat racing engines, he used to be on the drag circuit many moons-ago. It's a custom monoshock rear suspension.

Here are a couple bikes done by another friend, he was a Kawasaki dealer in western NYS, but is retired now, he still has his hand in, these are two KZ's he did (bikes are for sale). The silver bike has gorgeous wide, aluminum spoked wheels which give it a vintage appearance, but allow the use of better rubber. Their family has quite a history of dealerships going back to the 1950's, and racing, from European motocross in the 1960's, to speedway, flat track, TT, and roadracing. Five sons, all involved with bikes.

Absolutely beautiful bikes!! And yes you are correct, no one will be helping us along the way, just us.

2 years to wait and I'm already excited to go!
$1500 isn't bad at all. It all depends how much insulation and drywall is going to run me. I've got about 7k left in the budget.

I just checked Home Depot. A 4' X 8' sheet of drywall is less than a 4' X 8' sheet of osb.

Yep but if you hit drywall...vs OSB...no taping, 1 coat of Kilz...For sure drywall looks better when it’s tapped, mudded , sanded and painted but it’s a shop...

Yeah that's a good point. Did you paint over the OSB in your shop or leave it bare? I'd be curious to see pictures.

Just bought 1/2 inch osb for 7.99 a sheet. Drywall was quoted to me at 9.83 each.

That's an excellent deal, best I could find was roughly $12 a sheet for either.

I painted it before on saw horses then used 3/4” deck screws. I also did my ceiling but in 1/4”.
These are just 1 coat of Kilz, no paint on top. Like I said, it’s just a shop...
