Nice shop and great work on the nova and the bronco. Is there anything different you would of did on the paint room? Are you happy with how the intake and exhaust works. I am building something similar and wondering if you would have done anything different.

I've been really happy with it and would do it the same if I were to build another one. It clears out well and has good air movement and is plenty bright. Pictures don't convey how well lit it really is.

Wow, just noticed this thread has had over 75k views. Would have never thought that my little shop would garner that much attention.

Looking good, HD. I just reread the entire thread and either I can't find or missed the sizes of the drive in doors. I'm guessing 9X9s???

Nice shop, very nice trucks.

Would you comment/describe the air intakes in the sliding door and above? Is that a fabric material overlaying a filter? Thanks

The filters are a standard 20"x20" automotive crossdraft paint booth intake filters. They have a wire frame sandwiched inside between the two layers of filter. The green side is tacky to collect the dust/dirt.

How do you like your exhaust fan setup? Did you ever put a weather hood on the outside or did you stick with just the louvers? Any problems with wind, snow, critters, etc? Does your fan and filter box sit to the inside of the interior wall? I'm trying to decide what I want to do in my own paint area but my north wall is the only option for a fan and I live out in the country with wind and blowing snow. I was wondering if you have any problems with your setup.

It works well. I never did get around to putting a hood on it, the louvers seem to do well enough. Here are a couple pics from when I was building it. I basically built a square with 2x4s fastened to the wall. That is what the fan attaches too and the box was built off of. Everything is contained inside the box.

This will give you an idea how much air the fan moves. If I am painting with the overhead door shut on the shop side I have to open the window to supply enough air. If I don't the louvers only open about half way.

Awesome space you have there. Any other shots of how you ran your air set up?

Don't have many, I did later upgrade to the bigger Maxline. It comes out of the compressor through a filter then straight up to the ceiling. I have 3 drops, 2 on the shop side and 1 in the paint room. Each have moisture traps and drain valves on them

Did you answer this one? If so I missed it. My other question is how far can the Pro Rib panels span? 24 or 48"?

I may not have, not sure. I ran 2x4s between the trusses on 4ft centers then attached the ceiling panels to them. My ceiling runs the same direction as the truss.

I love it all  except the exterior man door being in the paint room, I never remember to lock doors and somebody would walk in while in the middle of a paint job. I painted the interior OSB walls in my shop & I'm not sure I gained much over your unpainted walls. Sure did use a lot of paint to get decent coverage though.

OSB really ***** up the paint fast. I put a few coats of kilz primer on some of the walls and part of the ceiling I put up and I blasted through about 4 gallons. It'll probably take another 5 gallons of primer to cover everything.

Very nice building and your inside finish work is spectacular. I'd like to ask about your roll-up doors ... what dimensions did you use and what is the sidewall height on your building? THANKS!

The doors are 10ft wide x 8 ft tall. Finished inside ceiling height is 10ft

Where did you get your exhaust fan? And the brand? I love your setup. I'm always following your builds. It helps with motivation [emoji2]. I've been doing bodywork and paint for almost 20 years now in a insurance collision shop and I build old cars on the side for a hobby.

I miss my days doing collision work at times...but don't miss insurance companies controlling my pay check. I'm sure it hasn't gotten any better in the 12 years I've been out.

I bought my fan online from VentDepot.com Its a 30" 115v 1/2hp I believe it is #5 in the link below

Thank you. You do such nice work. Yeah it hasn't got any better. The good thing is I'm at a high end hourly shop now. Been there for 8 years now. Before that I was commission for 10 years and those insurance company's don't want to pay for anything.

Your shop is sweet love the set up. Do you have some type of fan control for speed on there?
thanks Jeff

On the FSP board, is that just glued to the walls? Is that sold at Menards?
Love the Earl Schribe $29.00 sign. Where did you get that? I've been looking for a sign from Earl Schribe but they must be more rare than hens teeth.

Wow bringing this thread back from the dead, the frp came from Lowes, not sure if Menards has it or not. Probably do, I've never looked for it there. Yes its just glued to the osb underneath. The ES sign is a repop off Ebay

Joe - Nice build and thanks for documenting it so well. I have a paint room that is eerily similar to yours, and recently decided my exhaust fan is too small - like way to small. I also have a box in front of mine just like yours that holds a filter, and the exterior is louvered. I like that you are able to use a reasonably priced fan. In one of the first posts about the fan you said you were going to build a shroud to keep the motor separated from the exiting paint fumes. I don't see that shroud - am I missing it? Maybe you felt you didn't need it, and obviously the paint work you are turning out looks great. Just curious if there is more to it than I'm seeing.

I never did get around to covering the motor. The fan moves enough air I felt it would be fine exposed. The filters seem to be catching the majority of the wet overspray. I'm not seeing much build up of any kind on the fan blades or motor itself.

thanks for the reply. I go back and forth on the need - I've been spraying in this booth for 3 years with a sealed motor, however its not explosion proof. Seeing others with similar setups at least makes me feel like I'm not totally crazy. I mostly spray waterbourne products for interior woodwork, but get a car in there once a year or so. I find I have to change the filters in between coats or I have a noticeable loss of suction. BUT, I also have realized I need a much larger CFM fan - just wondering if others have to swap out filters mid paint job.
