Well, after many hours scouring the GJ and reading many opinions I have finally made up my mind and the contractor pulled a building permit this morning. I had my excavator guy Aaron busy the past few months pushing dirt around an making my shop pad, driveway, septic , drain field, he has done a great job. This will be a long distance build, me being in Michigan and the shop in North Carolina, so providing my builder sends me many photos I can share with you all. The shop is kinda like two buildings with the gables running perpendicular to each other, the right side is 24x34 and has 12' eaves with scissors trusses in the front 22' and attic trusses in the back 12'. With a 12/12 outside pitch and a inside 6/12 pitch for plenty of height for a car lift.

The left side is 32 deep x 28 long and has all attic trusses being 10/12 outside pitch. I will have a 16x28 upstairs tied to the 12x12 room created in the right side. I have a little office up front with a bathroom, behind it will be a welding/grinding/fabrication room. On the far left room will be a room for priming/ sanding/ painting.

My current pole barn is totally open and when grinding/ priming/ bodywork type work is being done the mess is on everything.....so I'm trying to divide this building up to contain messes.

attached are some pics of the pad, layout, and general lay of the land. with the last pics showing the steep terrain and a hand dig for the drain field.

the pad down below and the driveway to it on the left.

Is it just an illusion, or is that trackhoe, close, very close to the edge od dropping off?

Beautiful area though. I'm sure that once you ar there permanently, you really enjoy those views.

Looking forward to updates.

Not an illusion Kev. that was the trench dug to feed the drain field that is another 350 ft down the side of the hill. Them boys get on some slopes that scare me, but they do it all day long and it is just normal for them I guess. Concrete should be going in very soon, will keep pics up when I get them.

Again.....

This is where the 16x28 section meets the 12x12 section, 2 ft step up. The 12x12 is in the back section of the 24x34 part.

Looks great! Quality build in a perfect location. Up here in NH, that roof would be great for standing seam metal pans. What's your plan for that NC location?

Greetings from what I thought was central NC - but to you would almost be eastern NC!

Hayesville - not going to lie - had to google map that.

I have family in Spruce Pine, Morganton, and up in Boone - I thought that was Western NC - your practically in TN/GA!

Those views kick ***.

I'm sure you've been on some of the twisty out there - but check out Tail of the Dragon, Cherohala Skyway, and Moonshiners 28.

Nice looking shop by the way - I'm assuming your building a house up there as well?

Are the roads up to your shop paved - or will be paved?

No RV, but I have scissors trusses for a lift so I thought I would go with a 12' door rather than a 10'.....you never know.
