I have been on here for years. In fact what first got my attention years ago was the 150 watt CFL light bulbs that others had used in their shops. I had my dad order some years ago. It has to be over 10 years or more. Anyways I finally have my shop going. Back when I first started reading this forum I lived in Colorado with no real hope for a shop as everything out there was to expensive. My wife and I bought our house here in Wichita about 8 years ago with my first thought being that I could get a shop built.

I am a remodeling contractor by trade. I honestly could build this myself and was planning on building a stick framed shop. However Everyone decided that everything needs to be extremely expensive this last couple of years. My son in law works for Cleary out in the western slope of Colorado. I got to looking at their stuff and decided to get a quote. I originally wanted a 56x36 but prices jumped up $10k in the month between my quote and the time we signed the contract. So it shrunk. It may go bigger later.

Whats my plan for this? Well a little of everything. It will be for my remodeling business mostly. With a wood shop and the ability to park my truck and trailer in there nightly. I also plan to have a 2 post lift as I have a few cheap toys I like to mess with.

So far the only progress is the dirt pad has been done to my liking. I have it laid out and now I am waiting on the concrete guys. Yes I am doing a full foundation under my pole building. My backyard tends to get wet when it rains and this way it will stay out of the water run-off.

Some progress pictures.

The last picture is from our terrible back porch. Which I will rebuild to work with the shop once it is complete. It is maybe 6'-5" under the outside of it as you walk out. It was made in the 70's just like our house. Although I believe it was homeowner done as it is bad.

The temp fence is to keep the dogs away from the work site.

Nice to hear you have a shop in the works. I too planned and put off building mine for way too long. I'll be following along.

Do you have the space to accommodate a pull through design for your work truck and trailer since it will be used daily? My stepdad has that for his truck and 5th wheel camper and he says it is the best part of his barn.

I do not have that kind of space. I wish I did. My dad did that with his shop and then never used it like that.

I wanted to have a slight break from the cold that comes a few months of the year here. Due to the way they poured the walls this is how I handled it. I just went roughly 2' in all the way around except in the corners I did a full sheet. This way I get a thermal break from the cold trying to come in. The second picture is after I covered it up with plastic as we were getting freezing rain then snow. I will have to get some pictures of the slab as it is now. I have been waiting on the crew to start this project. They are running a bit behind as their Forman has been sick and we had some nasty cold days. They should be starting any day now.
