OK, finally I get to build my shop. This thread will so progress and allow me to make notes on ideas that are suggested or that I find. So comment away as to shelving or cabinet storage ideas, equipment location or general layout.

40 ft x 60 ft x 14 ft Mueller Inc building, metal bolt together kit.
1 - 14 x 14 roll up centered on 40 ft side
1 - 12 x 12 roll up centered on 60 ft side
2 - 3 ft walk thru doors located to the right of each roll up

Half bath
Wall off one side of the 40 ft to have a loft area for storage.
A/C the lower walled off area and possibly the entire shop, ideas?

Equipment:
Bend Pak lift
milling machines, manual and CNC
lathes, manual and CNC
Welding and CNC plasma area
Solid workbench area
Rolling tool box
Air compressor
Sandblasting area, probably outside

I do all work on my truck and any equipment, such as mower, tractor, ATV/UTV. I just don't trust anybody working on my vehicles. I don't rebuild vehicles or do major body work but I will tackle repairs and modify vehicles.

I will upload pics of the site and a drawing for the current arrangement later. I am looking for any ideas you feel would be valuable or necessity.

I'm looking to build in this size range as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do here. Looks like you have the plumbing addressed. The only thing I would consider in addition to the half bath is to put in a large utility sink. It will be good to see a steel building this size. What made you choose the steel over a pole barn or stick build? did you price out other options? Where did the steel building price fall in that?

If you look at my build below you can see how I handled the 'clean' machine shop area with loft. I have a 4' wide man door and sure glad I have it at times.

I question the placement of the door centered on the 60' wall. It sure looks to take a large portion of the shop area and cuts it in half. To me that leaves 24' from the door on the 40' end and that is short if your pulling in something in on the 40' end. Does that also mean that you have driveway encircling your house?

Is the cook going to be happy looking out the window to a wall of the shop?

I priced both pole barn and metal framed. For my area the pole barns ran around $31k with out insulation, doors or gutters. That is installed price. The metal kit with doors with motor operators and gutters ran $20k plus concrete cost of $9k labor and materials. I will recruit help to install for $2k of rental equipment.

The cook does not have to worry about her view as their is no window on that side of the kitchen. The roll up door on the 60' side is limited since this is a metal framed shop. I can move less than 3 ft either direction in that bay or move it to the next bay. This bay will contain the lift and I origianlly had planned to wall of the back side of the shop. Drive will wrap around shop on the left.

The green outline is required for the lift.

I would suggest that you do a bit more layout with all the equipment you plan to put in there. Put in workbenches and storage shelves. If you overlay the two pictures on post #5 you will see that you cannot put two of the vehicle (I'm assuming that is a crewcab pickup) in your drawing in the shop, one through each door, so you have a one vehicle shop unless you do some jockeying around.

Your layout would not work for me, but I don't know your intended use for the building so it may be perfect for you.
