Well here are some pics of my build. It is still a work in progress...this is this first thing I have ever tried to really build but I think it came out well. I wish I had kept a tally of all the food and beer I bought for my friends during the build. Luckily my liver is still functioning :) Here we go on the build adventure...

Nice looking place, keep the pictures coming. What is the main purpose for the space? Workshop? Equipment storage? What do you have going on?

And more...and for a side note of explanation. The shot of the mud is where we received alot of snow/rain that season and our water tables were extremely high! We were hauling in fill dirt for the garage and repeatedly were getting our 6-wheeler farm truck burried in the yard. The bobcat skidsteer we were using was getting stuck as well, and we basically just made a mess of the whole back yard...wife wasn't too trilled about it!!!:wtf:

Main purpose is really multi purpose...going to have a 20 x 20 photography studio for my wife in it as it is her side job and passion. She is bringing in extra money so I can't complain. Behind her studio will be a bathroom for her studio and a closet next to that and then behind it will be my man room with couch chairs tv...etc. Garage bays...well one will hold the pool table and I am only planning on keeping my truck garage kept for now. I will have a welder in it also. Probably more room than I need, but I am sure it will fill up fast!

Nice, really nice!!

Where did you get the building design? Was it a pole barn package? Also, in the first set of photos, what is the white material at the bottom of the exterior wainscoting?

I worked with my local pole building company to design what I was looking for. The white material is just a thin 1/4" foam strip that is stapled down where any metal goes against the treated wood. Something about the chemicals in the new pressure treated wood can eat into the metal or something. The company I purchased the materials from did a barn for my grandfather and my wifes aunt and when they build it they use thin tar paper inplace of the foam. I am sure the tar paper is cheaper but they want you to buy the expensive stuff from them and this was my first build so I didn't know any better...If I were to build another one, I would go a different route and buy all materials on my own through a local lumber/harware store but I went with a kit so the guess work would be taken out and would have a set of plans to work off of...even though I still ended up with many questions while building!

I am still on the process of deciding what to do for the heat/air situation. I originally was going to have my man cave area open out into the garage bay but I am thinking now since her studio room will need heat/air that maybe I should seal my room off and get a unit to take care of her area and mine and then put like a ceiling suspended heater in the opposite corner to heat the garage bays.

Yeah, I have heard that pressure treated lumber can have a corrosive effect on steel siding or aluminum flashing. Wise move to install a barrier ... foam or tar paper. I had a new replacement steel roof installed on an old barn and asked the roofer to install new PT facia boards. He said that would be fine; however, he warned me that if I ever wanted to wrap the facia boards with aluminum and install soffets he would have to install tar paper over the facia boards before installing the aluminum wrap ... for the same reason you described.

I vote for closing off your man cave from the shop/garage area and sharing an HVAC system with the wife's space. I would expect that you would want the man cave to remain fairly clean ... if you don't close it off it will be constantly dirty from the welding, sawing, polishing, grit-generating work (or whatever other work you plan to do) that is typical in a work shop/garage. It will also be nice to have a warm clean area to sit down and have a few beers while watching a game or playing cards etc. Or, it could also make a cozy place to spend some time with the wife while she waits for some film to develop .... !!

Ha no film developing anymore, everything is digital :) She just will go inside the house to start editing using photoshop! I am leaning toward enclosing the man cave though just for heating/cooling purposes as far as enjoying cold beers and watching nascar and games in there...I will try to scan a copy of proposed layout in the next couple days to get some input on the interior design of the building...

Thanks...it definitely was a learning process for me since I had never attempted anything like this before. I still have a couple things I need to do before buttoning it up. Roof leaks in a couple places due to multiple people with screw guns at different settings :( I have to go up and check all the screws to make sure the washers are set properly against the metal (AND THERE IS AN ***-TON OF SCREWS IN THAT ROOF!). I still have some caulking around windows, doors, and garage door trim that needs to be done as well. Maybe after the holidays I can tackle some of it, although I'd prefer a little warmer temps to be caulking. I guess I will just keep tinkering on it as time and extra money presents itself.

Okay, not much of an update but I have acquired a couple new signs...no I didn't steal them...well maybe the budwiser racing banner but I have people who can account that I was not at that hotel at that nascar race in that state and that time

Threw in a pic of my truck enjoying its out of the elements home :) and my new portable tool cart which I got for free. Its a cheap flea market one, but its on casters and seems to hold weight decent so far! And no I didn't drink all the beverages on it...well ok, maybe 98% of them but my wife already has the schedule for AA printed out waiting for me to sign up!:argue:

Something else to check for on the roof leaks is screws that missed or partially caught
the purlins.

Yeah I guess I will be able to tell when I tighten them down if they bite or not. I think I also have a screw or two on the ridge cap that missed the rib of the metal underneath and they will need some silicone around them. It was getting dark when we did the ridge cap and moisture was starting to build up on the roof making it extremely slippery!

Man get off my cloud. that is a lot like the shop I am wanting to build. What size doors did you use? Also, if I could be so bold, could you give me a bracket range on what it cost? i.e. 15-20K or 30-35K? Just a ball park. Awesome shop dude!

Thanks for the compliments. The doors are 10' x 10' & insulated. I think I am right around 25k so far. The kit I ended up using was upper 18k and then I paid $6400 for the concrete to be donw which is 4" thick with fiber mesh, and a 3' apron that goes from the side door all the way along the front to just past the front entry door. Other than the concrete and garage door install, the rest of the labor was done by family, friends, and myself...so I don't even want to think about how much I spent on food and beer!!!

Ok, I posted in the general discussion thread, but any ideas on how to insulate the walls and ceiling? I was thinking of studing the walls with 2x6 in between the post and something like R-19 but I am still not sure about the vapor barrior.

If you can afford it, sprayed in foam

The oversized windows are for the wife's photography studio to have more natural light in...the others are there for me. I figured the more windows I had, the less artificial light I would need to use to save electricity and having the windows open can certainly help move some air through in the warm summer time to help cool things. The only downfall is more places for people to look in, but thats why they make window coverings/blinds I guess!

Hello it's me again, when you bought you garage kit is the trim metal already bent? also what type of saw did you use to cut your metal. Would you change anything if you had to do this again. Thanks for whatever info you give me. :)

Nice build you have exactly what I am planing on building and yours looks great. I also see the Route 50 sign, so you must be down in the southern end of the eastern shore. My only question is what supplier did you use.
