Browsing craigslist, and oh no came across a deal guy 5 miles from me had a KR 550B and 555 combo for sale, text him and ask if he'll go $500 he said $550 is his bottom dollar, told him deal. So I check the box out tonight, and man this thing is a monster! It's 32"x65"x21". Picking it up tomorrow when my dad gets his truck, and this will be our new home box replacing hic Kennedy, and craftsman combo. More pics to come. Did I do good guys?

Big time YOU **** on those beauties!!

Would love to have them at that price. Closest thing I've seen is smaller pair of blue SO boxes for $600 that sold the same day around Xmas time.

Congrats! Thats the same box I'm in the process of restoring right now. Except mine is a KR555 9 drawer bottom with a 7 drawer side cabinet.

It is one of the coolest 80's snap on boxes. It is huge, compared to other boxes of smiler width.

You are going to love that box! Just be careful moving it. They are heavy. I am just about to put mine up for sale for about double that amount and I can't help but get misty eyed. That box will last a lifetime and them some.

Nice Score. You can still get slides and lock parts from SO if you need anything.

Thanks guys, I really like the 80s and 90s style boxes, and have been looking for a nice old school SO box for me to start a home collection.

I saw that one on Craigslist. Seemed like a pretty good deal. Does it have ball bearing slides? Are you going to do anything about the bent drawers?

They are friction but they all are smooth, the drawers will be pounded a bit back to shape.

I'd probably flip it for 1k and then see if you could talk someone out of a classic 78 for the 1k.
I have a kr555 and just bought some new slides for it. Anxious to see how smooth they open with new slides. The kr555 is a monster weight wise.

I don't have the room for a classic 78, thats why I was looking for a nice single bay.

Hey just a thought. is the kr555/kr655 a true 32" wide. My kr537a is actually 32-1/2" so I was wondering if the kr555/655 would be a good fit for the one I have. Thanks

Well she is home, and now I know where they get the model number, by weight! These damn things were still heavy even with 3 guys. Friday night I will work on gutting it inspecting and cleaning., more pictures when I get them. Till then enjoy this bad picture of me compare to the box.

be careful,
they have a tendency to multiply when left in a warm dark place

Congrats young man on a great starter tool box.

Sounds like you have a great dad who is helping you get started out right. Be thankful for your helpful Dad and learn all you can from him!

He help got me started, but now I'm taking charge of the tools and telling him all the history and other things about tools that he never knew.

Thanks I know I have read about these boxes a lot recently but the OP for this thread was the first time I saw a size listed. There is a guy local that has the KR655 for $600 the pict looks rusty and has some angle iron bolted onto it. So either of these boxes would work nice with my KR537, so I have other numbers to look for besides the KR557. Ultimately I hope to give this to my son as a starter if he ever goes to school.
