Hi Folks,

Firstly, let me apologise for the fact that im about to post is a heap of questions after my first post …. I hate when people do that! But, I need help, So here is my intro thread.

I’ve been lurking a long time, and have got countless fantastic information and tips on my build from the most knowledgeable folks on here, so thanks!

Firstly, let me introduce my workshop which I have done from scratch myself with the help of family and friends over the last 2 years with absolutely no building back ground whatsoever. it was all based on research, asking advice, and learning on the job.

This was how the yard was originally when I moved in.
A 30x20 block garage and a pair of horse stables.

So what I done was knocked the front wall of the original workshop, knocked out the side of the horse stables, took all the roofs off, and joined the two buildings together.

What I ended up with is a 62x30 main workshop, and a 10x30 machine shop (which was the horse stables) annexed to the side.
The roof is 75mm insulated.
The walls are cladded with PVC coated steel cladding, and in-between the blockwork and the cladding is 50mm insulation.
The security doors and the roller shutter are all also insulated.
The original concrete floor is 10in thick, and the new joining concrete for the new part of the workshop is 6in.

Next on my list over this winter is:
Rewire the complete building for power and lights with the correct SWA cable from the source.
Install all new LED lighting and sockets for machinery
Diamond grind the floor before 2k epoxy coat
Install 4T 2 post lift
Concrete entrance ramp at the front

That’s it for now, let me know what you think good or bad – cheers!

Wow, that looks fantastic. Are you using it for business purposes or purely your own vehicles?

bit of an update on my workshop build since the last time!

Among a million of other smaller jobs ive done that would be too much to list, the main job was to diamond grind the floor followed by epoxy coat.

In the mean time i have sheeted the ceiling of the machine shop in plasterboard (sheetrock for you American guys!) , plastered it and painted it. worked out quite well i think, makes the place so much brighter.

I diamond ground the floor with a twin head diamond grinder. it went ok, but was an extremely slow, messy dusty process i really never want to have to do that job again! It took 3 full days of grinding to do the complete floor.

Following that was hours and hours of vacuuming/ cleaning in prep for the epoxy.

I did the epoxy coat last week, and used just about 120L of 2k epoxy, doing 3 coats. This turned out really well very happy with the results.

Photos of the results below, any comments/questions appreciated!

Great looking shop, and an unusual, but effective build, so unlike most you see from your neck of the woods! Any references , maybe on other forums, about your side jobs?
