My $70 Haul

Not really a Usuck, But I NEEDED another box.

Can anyone tell me what year this Craftsman box is? I looked everywhere (Took the drawers out), (Checked under the drawer liners as well for Krusty) )


All I found was a retail like sticker in the bottom of the inside which had 2 6 87 (Feb 6 1987)? Anyone recognize this box as one made in the 80's?

What is unusual are the keys. These look original and fit the lock perfect, yet they have the "Crown". Possibly they made a lot of these in the 60's and were still using them until the 80's?

I saw the Wright 1" Combo for $4 and could not turn that down, A Made in USA Cornwell Hammer for $10 (Need some bodywork guy to tell me what this is), and a WERA (For her) Screwdriver $3.00.

The next are the $.25 wrenches, 8 USA made, 1 French made, 1 Canuck made, 1 German made and one Japanese. I like the Indestro because I never saw one this old in a mm version.

Blacknwhitepit - in answer to your key question, yes, those keys were used in the 80's, at least until 1984. I have an old rally box that I bought new at Sears with the same ones. I hope that helps.

Thanks... I thought that might be the case... I cannot find a top box that looks like this one in any of my catalogs.

P.S. This one is built much better than newer ones... I.E. Full length rails (not the crappy 3 post rails you see now that bend like ****... Also the drawers are a much thicker steel and the lip on drawer that catches the slide holder is not visible from inside the drawer (They used two different layers of steel on the sides of the drawers)

That's interesting b/c I was going to guess the metal was thin from the looks of it. Cool looking box...I'm sure that will help you get 'organized'

I had a set like that back in the 80's. It was a limited run. It had a good sized bottom rollaway too. I think it was like $259 for the set. It's been awhile. It looks like it's in pretty good shape. It even has keys, wow

I have a roll cab, same color, same trim, that I bought new in 1988 (I think yours had a 1987 date code). The keys are like yours as well. This style box sold for several years during the mid to late 1980's. They are pretty stout boxes with friction slide drawers. Not much to go wrong on these boxes.

Don't know if this helps any, but you did do well between the box and tools. The way I look at it, you got a great price on the tools and a free chest to boot. I don't think anybody would begrudge you a free tool chest, even if your garage is a little cramped.
