My absurd Craftsman screwdriver

Found this in my emergency kit in my pickup that I haven't really explored in years. I bought this set sometime in the mid 90's...why I don't know. I was probably broke but still wanted to buy something at Sears.

What's so funny is that this little kit comes with a Phillips #3 bit. Can you imagine using such a tiny screwdriver on a P-3? The handle is so small you really can't put any torque on it. It also didn't come with any tiny bits other than a P-1 that I've lost. It's just such a weird little driver.

Anyway, it's still Made In U.S.A....and does fit into my electonics box.

My dad has a set with a fullsize magnetic bit screwdriver, a full set of bits and one of those. I use it all the time. Wonder if sears still makes them. I like it better than a normal stubby.

I keep mine in the glove compartment as the #3 bit is used to change the air filter in my Toyota and it does the job even as small as it is!!

No part number on the package or the mini driver itself. Would be interesting if it broke and I took it back for a replacement as I can't find anything similar in the current catalog.

I'm guessing I bought this @ 1996 as that is when I bought my truck and put together the tool kit.

I have one of those little kits somewhere around here. Carried it for years, but never had an emergency...now I have so many tool chests I'm not sure where to start looking.

I have a couple of similar, but different kits. At one point, they were selling them at the check-out for $1 each and had a whole bucket full. I bought 4 or 5 and kept a couple and gave the others to my Dad and brother.

Wouldn't want to try and do any serious work with it, but just right for an emergency.

I got one around the time you did, maybe earlier. I got it free when I filled out a credit card application at the mall in front of Sears. I told the woman I wouldn't be eligible and just wanted the screwdriver set. She didn't care.
I've always used mine for tiny jobs.

With a vise-grip crushing its poor little handle for added leverage? Absolutely .

That's a neat little driver. I have a made in PRC POS that is a similar idea to your Craftsman. I didn't feel it belonged in my toolbox but I didn't have the heart to get rid of it, anyways I keep it under the seat of my Cherokee and it's bailed me out several times, usually when I forget to bring the proper screwdriver!

I've seen some P3 that just happen to have a big P3 head, even though they are short, low torque screws. Things like interior panels

The Sears near me had that for free with a $10 purchase. I got mine back around '96 or '97. Still keep it in my car kit, but I lost the pouch.

I have a similar one by Vermont American in the center console of my car. I think it has like 3 torx bits, 1 flat and a #1 Philips, never seen a Cman one though! Cool, thanks for showing us!

I remember going to farm shows, fishing shows, fairs etc. as a kid and coming home with loads of freebees like calendars, piggy banks, yardsticks etc. Now you're lucky to get a plastic bag and some pamphlets.

I have that same set and keep in my desk at work, comes in handy. Comes in handy, but I agree its not like you are going to generate much torque with it.
