got my order , really like the looks & quality & can't wait to put them to a full test.
I agree the quiethose plugs are great for stopping the the blast when you disconnect the air hose .
great swivels too. will post back when I've put them to a good full test, but no doubt it will be positive

I've been following this thread since the beginning. Nice job!

My question is will your QuietHose go in between my Prevost coupler and my air compressor? Here is my coupler: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009I3FCB2/?tag=atomicindus08-20

The answer to your question is NO.

The QuietHose attaches between the pressure side of the hose and the quick disconnect plug. It prevents the sudden release of pressure from the hose when disconnected. In the case of the Prevost safety coupler you mentioned, it reduces the exhaust sound from over 100 decibels to around 75 and allows the plug to be released immediately.

Installed my Quiethose plugs today on the air lines I regularly disconnect. Exactly what I needed. Turned the 100' 3/8" hose from a painfully loud flailing snake into a calm, quiet hiss. Very nice. Looking forward to whats next!

Not on "both ends of the hose". Perhaps you mistyped?:confused:
It only goes on the pressure side of the hose between the plug and hose.
Presumably the other end of the hose has a coupler on it.

ordered a quiet hose, 2 quiet plugs and 2 orbital
love the quiet hose and used 1 orbital today hooked to underlay stapler.
Truly a nice product and adds mobility to the stapler . we use nice flexible air hoses but the orbital is a nice touch still . great product so far

A problem I'm running into with my new couplers is educating the user.
First I demonstrate how easy it is to connect the plug even at over 200 PSI.
I then hand it to them and let them try it and they almost invariably do it wrong, making it harder then necessary to connect. Either they pull the collar back or worse yet, hold the collar while inserting the plug.
What's really interesting is that they act very impressed with how easy it is.
Once I get them to do it correctly they are amazed.
I could include instructions with the product but who would actually read them?

Couplers like the one you mentioned solve the same problems our soon to be released coupler solves only in entirely different ways.
There are three problems and they solve two of them.
They are insertion force, hose whip and noise.
They solve the insertion force and hose whip problems by requiring you to disconnect the pressure before removing the plug and then opening the valve after inserting the plug.

Our coupler requires low insertion force at all pressures.
The hose whip problem is solved by using Stedlin QuietHose or QuietPlug fittings which also
solves the third problem which is noise.

Keep in mind that I'm basically referring to small couplers and in this particular case, 1/4 NPT.

When scaling up to very large sizes turning off the pressure is a good thing.

Since I first started this thread a couple of years ago I have been asked many times when the coupler I demonstrated way back then would be available.
I will say it again now. NEVER
That coupler worked amazingly well but it was impractical to mass produce.
In addition it used a non standard plug which I designed.

The new couplers we are soon introducing are compatible with the 1/4" industrial format (Milton M style) as well as a miniature high flow plug I designed.
It is currently undergoing beta testing.

What is the warranty on the orbitals? Are they rebuildable?
All our products are unconditionally returnable for a full refund within 30 days.

However, any member of this forum who has a problem with any of our products simply needs to PM me and I will take care of them.
I didn't design the Orbital to be rebuildable in the field.
The only thing we have found that can cause failure of the Orbital is continuous use with an impact tool.
Our new Orbital Coupler eliminates this issue.

This test was run without any failure.
Test has been moved to main shop next to screw compressor so pressure of 110 PSI can be maintained.

We have a failure!

After many hours of trying to get one of our Orbital Couplers to fail, the one item I would have said would not fail, did in fact fail.

It must have been over stressed when tightened into the air hammer pipe fitting.

I think, perhaps, you may get different results if you actually have the hammer "working" - as in holding it on something and actually hammering rather than just reciprocating in the breeze. At least that was my experience when I destroyed those colorfit connectors. Might want to pick up a nice pair of anti-vibe gloves first. :lol_hitti

Valid point. We have tested that way at 200 Psi for short periods with no failures. Analyzing the vibration via slow motion video shows little difference between striking and not striking.

In conclusion:

When I started this thread I had very limited experience with compressed air couplers from a design/engineering point of view.
Like many others I took them for granted since I started using them back in the 1960s..
During the course of this thread I developed a number of design objectives.
Here they are in order of importance:

Design objectives:
Design and manufacture in USA
Absolutely leak tight
Quiet
No hose whip
Extremely low connection force at all pressures
High flow
Small size
Light weight
Able to handle direct connection to high vibration tools with ease
Integrated low friction Orbital
Price competitive even though it has no direct competitor.

I believe I succeeded on all counts.

Stedlin Mfg is in the process of beta testing these new couplers and Beta users are raving about them so far.
We are beginning to manufacture them and expect to begin shipping the first of next year.

I will no longer update this thread unless requested.

O.K. Here's a minor update:
I have been asked if we could supply our upcoming tool couplers in plastic.
I answered in the affirmative.
However, our upcoming couplers will be available only in aluminum with a polymer sleeve.

I think I might make a video showing me connecting an Orbital Coupler at 250 PSI.:shocking:

Since I started this thread complaining about how much force it takes to connect high flow couplers I made it my mission to solve this problem.
I am very pleased that our patent pending orbital coupler is so easy to connect.
To my knowledge it takes less then half the force to connect then any other push to connect coupler. This does not include couplers that require you to turn the pressure on and off of course.

We have another failure. :(

I don't know exactly how long it took - longer than the 30 seconds a colorfit connector lasted but no more than a few minutes.. It was the time it took to take an 80 gallon tank from 150 to 90 psi, once. I was pounding some cut-off bolts through a concrete pad.

The connector was unused before being connected to Astro Pneumatic's 4980 air hammer (colloquially known as Big Nasty) with a brass union and into a Milton colorfit coupler.

If I had another one of your connectors, I'd attach it to a 3' whip and see if that makes a difference.

FWIW, flexzilla (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EYR502C/?tag=atomicindus08-20) and oemtools (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074CKJ664/?tag=atomicindus08-20) connectos do not have this problem. I've been using them for over a year and there's maybe some polishing of the surfaces by the coupler's ball bearings.

The Milton ColorFit coupler uses 6 5/32 hardened steel balls that transfer a significant amount of energy to the plug locking surface when used in that manner. Any aluminum plug including ours will do the same thing. This type of operation requires a hardened steel plug when used with this type of coupler.
We are currently beta testing our upcoming couplers which do no damage to aluminum plugs when used with air hammers.

We ran this coupler and plug for 10 hours at a constant 110 PSI and there was no noticeable damage to the high flow plug. The test was performed in another building hooked to a Quincy 90 CFM compressor.

I noticed you were using a QuietPlug HF with the air hammer. I thought you were going to use the Orbital QuietPlug HF.
I don't understand why you would use a QuietPlug on a air hammer anyway as it doesn't really do anything as the air hammer doesn't release a significant volume of air when unplugged.

I was testing it to see what would happen after you posted your vid. Burning up a $9 connector was an acceptable risk for science :), didn't want to risk s $40 swivel...

Most of my "auto" airtools mostly have a 2-3 foot whip on them and that does give a nice whoosh; some have a swivel, like a 1/4" ratchet or small die grinder that get used when I need to fit it in somewhere tight. But I didn't have an extra whip handy to test with the air hammer. My framing nailers don't have a whip but they have a nice internal volume that gives a good whoosh. My trim tools typically have a swivel.

Looking at your website, are the quietplug male an aluminum quiet hose with a steel male plug or is it all aluminum, with the male end non-anodized?
