Hi all, I have been lurking here for a while and waited several weeks until I could finally post my garage.

My wife and I recently purchased our first home as a married couple (I owned one before, and sold it last year). We reside about 1 mile from the beach in SoCal, so space is a premium around here. My garage is 19x21 and is the first "finished" garage I have had. I'm looking to make some upgrades to it eventually...including lighter paint (hate the brown), surfboard racks and epoxy coat the floor. The garage is wired for a TV and has a built in entertainment center for a 32" TV and A/V equipment...the previous owner used it as his lounge, but did not store cars in it. I intend on it being a workshop, showcase and lounge as well!

Let me know what you guys think...also please pass on any suggestions for storage techniques and/or ideas to improve my beach town "man cave!"

Also, I have a "slab" style garage door...any suggestion on what type of garage door opener I can use for this?

Garage looks like it has some potential. No idea on the door dilemma, up here where it snows we can't use that kind of door..won't open w/ 2 ft. of snow against it, lol.

Are/were you a member on GM Fullsize? SN and the BMW seem familiar.

I am! I lack a certain creativity when it comes to screennames....

Good Lord, is there anything that can be done with that pole? If it could be engineered out somehow you could have a traditional garage door and maybe even get a vehicle in there. I had a cumbersome pole in my basement and we were able to have an engineer look it over and get it moved into a different location inside an existing wall.

Love the space, and it looks like it will have a natural flow out to the drive if you want to expand work space or if you're entertaining in there. Looking forward to see what you do with it!

I agree 1000% with OhioSiouxFan. Nice garage with a ton of potential. But.....eliminating that pole will be the most satisfying upgrade you could make.

Good luck with your project. I'm looking forward to seeing its progress.

Sadly, the pole most likely has to stay for a long time. It provides support for the level above the garage and it would definitely be out of this new homeowners budget!

Any suggestions on paint colors, storage solutions etc?

Whether you change the garage door or not, any regular beam type garage door opener will work fine, no need to get anything special. I had one of those doors in my house in Sandy Eggo.

"regular beam type?" I guess I'm a little unsure what that is?

Just any standard opener will work? Belt, chain or screw type?

I had a one piece door on my old garage (they aren't very common in Minnesota, but mine was really old.) I used a conventional chain drive opener and it worked fine.
