My Bendpak 4 post lift rocks...

I recently purchased a Bendpak 4 post lift and noticed that it rocks side to side (not front to back)... (I will not be anchoring the lift to the ground).

I've seen other people report same issue...
Looking at the design/footprint of the lift, plus that the bar with the slots (inside each of the legs) that the runway platforms rests on is at the back of each leg, it would make the lift conducive to rocking.

The lifts foot print is (I beleive 12x10)
So why does bendpak not use a 12x12 baseplate so that there is 2 inches extending at the back of the leg?

That said, I am theorizing that if I make a make a 12x12 base plate, weld 4 bolt to the new base plate and slide it under each leg, bolt it together, this would minimize the rocking.

Any reason the lift should be allowed to rock?

Is it bolted to the floor... and it still rocks?

If it isn't bolted to the floor it will indeed rock.

Any lightweight steel structure, with 4 hard contact points, each comprised of a significant large area , sitting on a hard concrete surface, will rock.

as I said, not bolted down...
I've seen Back Yard Buddy lift and it was stable (yes if you push hard enough it would rock but you needed significant effort). The bendpak rocks easy and I really believe that it's because there is no lip at the back side of the leg.
I think if there was, it would significantly help in preventing rocking motion.

Yup, that as the other lift I was looking at.

I'm a fan of the MaxJax 6K, around $2,000 delivered and isn't that loud. We used to sell lifts, and I would be able to get good deal on one, but nothing that would fit in a house.
Not sure I would trust anything not bolted to the ground. Guess I'm old school

If the OP would like to bolt his down...I have the kit to do so that came with my HD9. I"m not going to use it. Came with the bolts, shims/washers, etc.

For that matter...if anyone can use this...come and get it. It's a heavy box, so probably wouldn't make much sense to ship it...

Another possible cause of rocking is an unlevel floor.

Does it rock while lifting or just sitting there and you push on it.

I am not convinced a bigger base plate would solve the problem but I am not sure I understand when it is rocking.

I also would likely bolt to the floor but I have seen some 4 posters that were not.
