I got the tires stripped off my Challenger rims and stuck them in my blaster...only to find it was taking off very little and was going to take very long!!!

The paint on them is tough and some spots are crusty, but it should work better than that....I'm running a mix of sand and copper slag....

Maybe I should go with a different media? Or maybe I should take them to an industrial blaster/stripper?

I ended up taking off what I could with a grinder and wire wheel, then returning them to the cabinet - still no go. Must be the media is too fine...:headscrat

I am using black blast in my cabinet, I did try some amber blast from northern and it SUCKED (gentle finish but not fast cutting). So for me coal slag fresh out of the bag for the tough stuff. Black blast/ black beauty works GREAT when new and works ok after a few hours of blasting (personal experience).

I agree with Dan Black Beuty is the way to go with those rims it will cut through the paint and rust quick . Just remember to switch it out before doing any sheetmetal stuff :D.

EASYOFF??? I've heard this usedfor afew things, but asa(Tough) paint remover? You sure tatra?
I do need to get it all off though, 'cause at the car show I found out I can have the inner rim rings cut out and welded to wider bells at the wheel shop. So I'll go from 7" to 8" and (hopefully) be able to run like 225-70R14's on it - that'll look wide and almost low profile on the Chally!
Any TIRE PRO's know the lowest/widest tire one can get on an 8inch rim? Thanks.

e-tec if you go with new hoops go with a 16 or 17" hoop which can be done on your centers it will look alot better plus will give you alot more tire options than the 14" rims will plus it will fill the wheel wells better.

These guys will make you any wheel that you want. Also if you are an alliance member on the HAMB you will get 10% off.

http://www.rallyamerica.com/

Just contact Jimmy or Gary. I think its a father and son shop.

They make lots of wheels for the guys over on the HAMB.

They are located in her in California. I would just ship them your inners and have them ship you back the complete wheel.

I got a quote from them on shipping. 12.00 per wheel. That seemed cheap enough.

He is going to make my wheels for my 29.

I have 295-50/15's and 265-60/15's on my 8" Vette wheels. The 295's are a bit too much,245 and 265 look a lot better. Most of the tire Manufacturers have charts on their websites, chances are Cooper has the only real selection in 14" and 15" tires, most companies are making less and less of them.Elrich Tire is the distributor, not sure if they have a warehouse in Sask.

What PSI do you have going to the cabinet and does it seem to be blowing the correct amount of sand? My blast cabinet suction feed can sometimes get clogged and it will allow some media to flow but not all of it. Assuming this is a cabinet and is suction type, put your finger (in the glove, obviously) over the end of the gun and press the trigger. It will cause the air to go through the feed line and will blow out any obstruction in the feed line.

Ok, well this is tough since you dont tell us what type of blaster you are using. I am going to assume you are using a blast cabinet. I would first start off by checking the gun . I know on my cabinet, the gun gets clogged every so often, as a matter of fact, I keep a screw driver next to it for quick cleaning. sometimes the clog is a the ceramic tip and it needs to be unscrewed and tapped on the palm of your hand til something falls out. Other times it can be at the inlet hose part that connects to the gun. Undo that and make sure there is not junk in there too. This usually is because something fell into the hopper that was bigger than what should be in there. Remember you need consistant media. If you are using ol playground sand, that is no good. Too inconsistant, plus it usually has moisture in it. Which is also something to avoid. If you need cheap media, go get some kiln dried sand from a brick place. You can get a 100lb bag for like $7. It is very consistant a bit smaller than playground sand but much better. And be warned sand is not the best media as there is health related problems from silicosis (the dust from sand). I used Aluminium oxide in my cabinet and it is pretty agressive. I bought a set of Sebring wheels at the Mopar Nationals a few years ago. The clear coat was really bad on them. I cleaned them and hit them with an aircraft stripper and it literally did little to them. I tossed em in the blast cabinet and the aluminium oxide took of the clearcoat, paint, and even textured the machining grooves out of the wheel. Perfect for paint. Mixed up my own paint from the paint store and they look awesome.
If you are using a pressure tank, I would say dump all the media out, start with a known good media, like aluminium oxide and play with the valve at the bottom til it flows nicely. Don't give up too soon. But if you decide to, let me know. I'll take the chally wheels off your hands...and like my buddy likes to say the swap meets, "and I'll be doing you the favor!" ....lol Good luck.

Thanks guys - and Bo! First off, it is a blast cabinet and second there was something in the hose. Got it out with some welding wire and it's back to like new!!!

BTW- I'm changing out the copper slag for aluminum. The copper is too coarse and must have contributed to the large chunk that clogged the hose!

I've tried blasting wheels a couple times, and won't do them myself anymore. It's one of the few things that will fit in my blast cabinet that I'll farm out.
