Had a mishap a few weeks back. Putting on roof panels and lift hung on a side purlin. Tried to back it up again and it gave way with me 18' in the air. What a crazy ride!
Glad I'm ok. Looked for another lift while taking this one apart to repair it. Found a Snorkel 25' for sale and got it. Back to roof work while taking time here and there taking old one apart to weld it.

Found part of where it cracked was rusted. Part of previous issue that I couldn't see. Going to bring the pieces back together, ball gouge the crack, tack it then weld it. Then I'll cut out parts of the sides and weld in new reinforcement plates and weld the horizontal planes where the stress is. It will live again!

Newer lift is a Snorkel SL25. I need the main board as previous owner threw it out and direct wired some toggle switches in for controls.

Armchair engineers frustrate me. Just fix it correctly, don't re engineer if you don't know how.

At least it'll work in the meantime.

Damn Racer, bet that was a shityurpants moment. Been working off lifts for over 40yrs and I've never seen one have a structural failure. Glad you're ok.

Yeah, never seen one do that either. I figured the gamble with used equipment would be hydraulic hoses, electrical issues and possible ram seals. Never imagined it'd crack the frame like that. As it happened I came up off the platform about 6 inches and I realized what was happening i bent my knees so when it settled, I wouldn't break anything. My volunteer fire training and prior karate training kicking in, I guess.

Thanks. All healed up now and putting more roof panels on. Old lift basket removed and hope to have the scissors off this week. That thing is HEAVY. I figure the basket alone weight 1,000 lbs.

Yeah, been really hot and humid. Soaked quite a few shirts and shorts, but gotta get it enclosed so I can move onto the floor epoxy. August, our hottest month, here we are!

At the point of prepping floor for epoxy now. Hope to complete that shortly and move everything in. I need to get some new pics and post them. Main electrical done, structural done, sheathing done. Doors in and working. Lighting in and working. Been one hot summer. We finally cooled off to 42 degrees this morning.
