Don't you have to be concerned with carbon monoxide with that style of heater?

Where are you located in TX, and I am disappointed that I can not see any of the first pics. Very nice garage build!

Also, have you considered the flamability of EPS? I would be concerned with the proximity of the heater to the insulation (EPS) on the walls and ceiling. Food for thought.

Ive been keeping a close eye on the insulation around the heater as i run it, surprisingly, its not too bad, its warm but not dangerously hot. Go back and check on the pics, im going to repost them! Thanks!!

No staples in the romex? not secured? The romex going into the panel going thru a pvc adapter? I know thats a regional thing, never pass around me. Romex coming out of pipe, pipe fill?
No big deal as far as I can see but....

Oh well as far as that goes romex was actually being stapled as i was clicking pics...the romex coming out of the pvc coming out of the slab is part of the under slab conduit system...sure saves money on wire when you can run it straight and not around walls...

And the pvc adapter....i dunno..im no electrician...but it looks fine...and there are no inspectors so...oh well...

I wasn't trying to be critical just looking out for your safety. All primary heating sources that burn propane, NG, Fuel oil or kerosene for residences have to be vented. I looked at the Enerco site and the brochure states:

"DO NOT use this in sleeping quarters, mobile homes, or recreational vehicles."

It would be fine for an area of more limited use such as a garage or barn, but I wouldn't sleep in there. I have been exposed to CO before and it isn't much fun recovering.

That is what I meant. That would never be passed for rough inspection around here.

Nothing is dangerous, it's just rules in my region. I am used to VERY strict code. It gets pretty stupid sometimes depending on the inspector. We have had some that are super **** down to the tension of the romex between studs and the "wiggle" room of staples to name just a few.

Cornbread mix (jiffy)...thats crazy!...really...tension of romex?? Who in their right mind would pull that stuff to great lengths of tension anyways? LOL

prince charming (toad),
I understand that it says not in sleeping quarters, but at the same time it says dont use in RV's or mobile homes...RV's and mobile homes are cramped quarters with little air flow..this is a pretty big place with airflow and no cramped quarters. I think it means immediate sleeping quarters, such as a bedroom that might not have proper venting and airflow. I appreciate your concern and will keep that in mind the first night. Detectors will be in place as well.

On another note, while working on this project, the heater comes on for about 5 min and then shuts off and it doesnt come back on for hours...the insulation works really well, and the building is sealed pretty good. So for propane price sake, I hope i dont have to run this heater often!

I see some electrical violations that should really be fixed. The biggies are the romex entering the panel through a PVC conduit fitting. Why not just run the conduits all the way up into the panel? Regardless, you need to use the proper approved romex fittings.

The second is the romex through the PVC conduit under the slab. BIG no-no. A conduit in the ground or under the slab is a wet location and your romex isnt listed for wet location.

You should run the conduits up into the bottom of the panel, THWN conductors in the conduits under the slab, then use a junction box where they come back out of the slab to transition to romex if you so desire.

no offense taken. He may have his license, but I have a code book and the items I pointed out are violations. Its up to you whether to correct them siince there are no inspectors, and you seem to have your mind made up.

Make sure the ground in the panel is properly bonded to the building steel.

Enjoy your new building, it looks nice.

I dont really see a problem with the exposed romex from the conduit to the box...the closet is getting osb in there so theres really no difference that running it in a wall.

and as far as the PVC connector thats just there to guard against abrasion....since there will be OSB on the closet walls i really dont see a need for the romex fitting...and as far as the conduit in the slab is concerned...it is sealed up at each connection...and i mean SEALED!! haha....i would be really surprised if it ever took on water or moisture, and i dont believe it will sweat enough or at all to cause an issue...thanks for your input mrb!!

Neat. And going up quick!

There are still some things in there that I'm not sure about, but I really am more curious to see how it works out once you get all moved in. Best of luck- looks like moving day is coming right up.
