I think OSHA decided those were too complex to cover, and now just requires the operator to wear a complete suit of jousting armor.

Cool vid ontario, spindle speed sure is low on those machines. I couldn't tell from the video, what speed was that in out of the 4?

And out of curiosity, what makes them so loud? I'm assuming the belt? The gear train seemed to be be quiet as the video went over it.

I could totally see me getting one of those, getting rid of the belt drive on the rear and doing a planetary gear direct drive with an AC motor with a frequency drive, maybe even a worm drive depending on how heavy the spindle and such is.

That thing is hot.

That first vid speed is the slowest of the flat pulley but there is a reduction gear that cuts that speed in half which isn't used much unless doing 2" hole

Noise is mostly camera er camera operator its not that bad

seen one set up with varible speed pulley $$$$$$$$

Mine came straight out af a small machine shop still on the Line had chance to buy 8' Line lathe $300.00 but back then money was short today i would have bought the whole shop

another vid in reduction gear and at the end back to slow speed

lower your volume

Sorry for the thread highjack autoclassicnut Just hope your press works as well as this one has over the years they are a real treasure Just don't drop it off the trailer :bounce:

if i remember right mine was built in 1892

becareful with yours notice how long it takes to slow down after power disconnect

Here's the bottom half... It needs to be cleaned up and oiled thoroughly but it will be worth the effort.

great looking shape remember every hole takes oil The more oil the happier it will be

the hand lever feed just watch it for a while as in make sure it don't come down and bomp you on the nose

I see yours has the auto feed also and the adjustable depth shutoff
looks complete nice find

also notice the chain that runs inside the camel back thats to help return quil back up goes al the way down and under the base where thers a spring damn thing likes to break the end off the spring and then it goes POP after you come back down from the ceiling you'll realize you didn;t realy break anything LOL

The chain should be untangled and hanging through the frame. I think the previous owner just tied it up like this. Could this just be to transport it?

could be that its ******* so quill won't fall in transport

my spring has poped again and it isn't fastened have to lay the whole press on its side to rehook

But your model could just have a chain that prevents quill from traveling all the way down till it falls out
