It's been a long two days in the carport / garage. I had to have the front framed by noon today, so the garage door could get installed. For reasons out of my control, I didn't start until last night at 7PM. After working 6 hrs last night, and most of the morning, I finished my part. The door is in, and the lift master works flawlessly. I still need to trim out and add the siding. The door is 8 x 10.

I need add a larger weather strip at the base of the door, to compensate for the slab's grade.

It is a Amarr Classica 3000 Garage Door. I still have to add the carriage door hardware. Overall, I am very pleased with the quality and finish of the door.

I think it may be called a "Balloon seal" for the bottom. It will be considerably larger and will make up close to an 1" - 1 1/2" space. My buddy had the same problem on his garage door.

Next is trim and siding on the front. I'm going for a clean look. I made so e progress today on it, will have it if ready for paint maybe Monday. I decided to go with Azek sheets on the front. I'm going to add a raised panel look to go around the front lights.

Finally finished the siding, lights and trim on the front. I still need to caulk and fill holes, but I tout I would take a night shot. The fixtures originally are with 50watt halogens, that in my opinion ran way way too hot. I changed them out with LEDs. It looks much brighter in the pics, then it does in person.

Thanks for the compliments. I should have the front ready for paint by Friday. My next focus is the interior. I am trying to decide between painted osb or Sheetrock. The osb would be easier, and I'm kinda exhausted since I've been building this thing solo for the last 6 weeks.

Started doing the insulation today. Not fun. I took a break to take some day shots of the door and how it works with the house. It's still untainted, but caulked.

I started hanging the osb on the side walls. I painted them with kilz oil based primer, and will paint the exterior coat tomorrow. I'm finishing one wall to see if I like the results. If I can't get the finish to my liking, I will cover it with 1/4 rock and then continue with rock along the rest of the build. I'm optimistic with the osb, and I really like the idea of hanging things wherever I wish. On a side note, I took a few minutes and hung a gift from my wife. Pretty cool vintage creeper. I think it's from the early 70's late 60's.

I finished my osb test wall. I decided to use osb on the sides (that is where my pegboards and cabinets will be hung, and Sheetrock the back area. See pics of the test wall below.

Started 8am this morning, but after 14 hrs, all walls are insulated, sheetrocked and/or covered with OSB, taped, and mudded. Sanding tomorrow. Paint Monday.

You won't be painting over the brick will you? I hope not!!! I think it looks good with brick in the garage the way it is.

BTW...great work on making a very useful space out of a carport.

No I'm not painting the brick. I painted the sides a very light grey. I think I'm going to do a bit of a darker grey on the back. Thinking about a racing strip, but not sure.

I hit a milestone today. Started hanging things on the wall. The gladiator cabinets were not as important to me, as my custom built bamboo bike (hanging on my reclaimed bike hanger). A hidden passion of mine is bike building, including frame building. I built the bamboo frame a few years ago, and clocked about 50 miles on it. At this point it is retired. It's still rideable, but as I get older, I don't enjoy riding death traps:)

Today was a long day of finishing punch list items. Two months and one trip to the emergency room and I am almost done. My next venture is building my workbench. Below are some more pics of the interior.

Yup, it's already roughed in to be moved to the outside of the garage.

I'm just waiting on the power company to do the move. It was required by the inspector.

And the good news for me, I am able to fit both my cars in tandem with inches to spare. It's raining outside now, and as I write this both my cars are clean and secure. First time for me.

I now have a two car garage. I designed the nose of my car to slide under my workbench, and i just built a parking hump to keep me from hitting the wall. It's not ideal, but it works.

Well done, NorthernVA. It looks very good now. I guess You are pleased with the conversion, carports are not useful for much else than keeping rain/snow off the car. The only advantage from a garage, is extremely good ventilation :)

Nice cars You have as well. I like MB's a lot. The CLK is a nice coupe with "quiet" style, and with the 5,5 litre V8 it brings You around as fast as many sports cars. Not much over 5 sec to 60 is it? The Jeep looks good as well.

Now i'm curious. You mensioned something about emergency room? What happened (if You want to share the incident with us)?

I wish the ER story was more exciting. I'm typically good about keeping a clean workspace, but during the framing process, I stepped on a 2x4 with a 3" framing nail sticking out of it. Of course I wasnt wearing OSHA approved shows (I actually was wearing a pair of flip flops). The nail went about a half inch in the foot. Pretty painful. Went back to framing after the trip to the ER, but changed my choice in footwear.

Great build, I've enjoyed reading it!

And, regarding nail in the foot.... During my recent framing work, I similarly stepped on a 2x4 with a nail protruding and it went clear through my shoe. I looked in horror, waited for the pain and blood to kick in... It didn't. Hmmmmm.... Went right between my toes with only a small scratch. Whew!

Glad your injury wasn't worse too!

Perfect aim on your part. The funny thing about my story is I stepped on a nail earlier in the build, but it wasn't serious, and I was on the fence about getting a tetanus shot. After the second time, I thought someone was trying to tell me something, so I went to the ER. I usually have to make the same mistake a few times before I learn:)

On a brighter note, I got my garage stereo going. I am a big fan of all things vintage, so I got my hands on a nice Onkyo Amp from the mid seventies and some nice bookshelf speakers from the same era. Hooked my iPhone into it and it sounds great. Here are some pics.

I'm not sure if I'm keeping it on the workbench or not, I need to see how it works out. Next project is a vice table
