I was given this vise in 1976.It was in a plumbing shop I worked in as a young man.It weighs about 140 lbs.I use this vise a few times a week.i've pressed out control arm bushing and used it with a 2x4 as a stand to repair small outboards.can't imagine the work it did in the 50plus years before I got it.I have it listed in my will to go to my son before my tools and fishing equipt.

Very nice vise. I have a smaller (4" jaw, probably 40 lb) Chas Parker that I use regularly too.
Hard to tell in the picture, I hope its mounted so the fixed jaw face is just beyond the edge of the bench, for clamping things vertically that hang down below.

Very nice vise! Here's a little information for yourself and to pass along to your son.

It's a Parker Eclipse model machinists vise that was introduced in 1912, as seen in the 1912 ad below. Sometime in the mid-1930's, Parker replaced the "meatball" screw spindle with a "cylindrical" screw spindle. It was at that time that Parker replaced the model numbers from the "20x" to "97x", as seen in the 2nd ad below. The Eclipse model vise lasted into the 1970's.

Since you have the "Patent Pending" casting, it's pretty easy to date your vise. Two patents were given in 1930 concerning the improved swivel handle and nut, with the earlier patent being applied for in 1928. That would make your vise born somewhere around that time.

Thanks for sharing!
