No big updates yet. Trusses are still being built. Last fall I installed a Hearthstone woodstove in my house, and never finished the outside. The easiest installation was to remove a window in the living room, frame the window in, leaving just the chimney pass through. Sunday I finally finished up the log siding. I staggered all the joints, so you would never know there was a window there.

After work I'm picking up some log wash, stain stripper, and wood renew so we can clean and strip the logs, and re-stain. I have a bunch of install pictures, but I'll only post one, since this is a garage forum.

I'm also ordering the roof strapping today, and were deciding on a roof color. Our house roof is green, so were leaning towards that. I also like brown, if we stain the garage dark. We're doing our house "redwood".

The garage doesn't have to match the house does it :dunno::dunno:

Sorry about the lack of updates, Photobucket ruined that. Garage has a roof, power, lights, doors, all that good stuff. I wish I could show you!

You can upload them directly from your computer. Up to seven per post. Just resize them down to around 600x800. Then use the manage attachments below which will put thumbnails in your post. Then right click the address below for a picture and copy location. Then use the insertimage button above and paste the location. Works well. You could go back and recreate your other pictures in a short time.

We'd like to see what you are doing and have no admiration for photobucket and their greedy willful desecration of hundreds of thousands of posts on the internet.

Alright, I'm gonna try and get you guys up to date. The truss delivery was exciting. I was nervous that the boom operator was gonna drop the trusses on my car, but of course, he didnt.

I was told by the truss shop that they would set each truss in place with the boom, but when the driver got here, he said he didn't have time. So there they were, 15 massive trusses stacked up, sitting on my walls. This was a Tuesday morning so of course, we couldn't get any other bodies to help us. I ended up renting some staging with casters and we walked each truss over using the staging as a dolly. Standing them upright was a challenge. We ended up making a stilt out of a 18' piece of strapping. Slowing but surly, we set them all, just the 2 of us.

Strapping went slow. Up and down the ladder a few hundred times before I got someone on to run the saw, so I could stay on the roof. I doubled the strapping on the top and bottom, and spaced it 12" on center. It may be overkill, but not having plywood on the roof, I wanted it to be strong. I wanted a good size overhang on the gable ends, to keep the front of the garage dry when it rained. I also wanted to keep the sheets of tin whole, and not rip one, so I ended up with a 28" overhang on either end. Proportionally, I think it looks perfect.

12" purlin spacing is significant overkill based on a normal span of 22'1/2" or more. Did you screw into all purlins? Regardless it did not cost that much and you can walk about anywhere without danger of denting the roof.

Well, we decided on green tin, to match the house. We made a template out of the top sheet of tin, and pre-drilled the tin on the ground. I strongly recommend doing this if you putting on tin roof. I stayed on the roof, and was handed up the sheets. All I had to do was zip a screw into each hole. The age old question came up. Do you screw on the ribs, or the flats on the tin. We did the ribs. If its wrong...take away my builders license :D. We also staggered the screws, making a nice diamond/diagonal pattern with the screws. Looks cool. Onto the pics....

Here's the roof completed. I also framed in the end walls, and added a window to the front gable end. The window I used was taken from my living room, when I installed the woodstove.

I had an electrician friend do all my wiring. He charged a reasonable rate, and was neat, and didn't waste time. I ended taking power from my house. Step one, burying the line.

Next was putting in boxes, and running wire. It took 490 ft of romex to wire everything.

I hate unfinished build threads. I’ll try to finish uploading pictures, as time allows. Here’s a few to hold you over...

Loved the story. Too bad your aunt tore down the OG house!

Garage is looking great! Keep the pictures coming, of both the garage and the VAGs!

Well, its cold and snowing up in Vermont. I work for a woodstove company, so business it good. I was on GJ looking for ideas, and figured a post a recent picture of my garage. Let me rephrase...my "shop". We dont park in it, I work out of it. I restore vintage woodstoves, and am restoring a MK1 VW Jetta. Anyway...here's a fall picture of my shop.

Enjoy
