Found an ad on Craigslist for a guy helping to sell his recently deceased neighbors tools. Called him up and he gave me a basic of what all was there. Large air compressor, floor jack, two sets of jack stands, cam grinding machine, small engine dyno, tons of Briggs and Straton motor parts, snap on tool box full of snap on tools, tons of pulley pullers and specialties tools, welders, list goes on an on. And it all has to be sold!

Long story short, I wound up with a parts washer never used. Top is well used. Guessing as a work bench lol. A VERY large and VERY heavy 3 speed drill press. Works perfect, but missing the belt cover. Have no idea the value or name brand of it. I offered $50 and got it. And $50 for the parts washer. I also picked up the Snap-On tool boxes. Completely full of a ton of tools. Majority is Snap-On. Some blue point, craftsman, and a lot of proto's as well. They was wanting $600 for the tool boxes. I ended up with everything for $600. Don't think I got a smokin deal but I'm happy with all of the tools I got!

Also I didn't get the compressor but snapped a pic of it. It's a 60 gallon stand up, 220 volt, single stage one cylinder. It's older. Works well and he said $100 for it! Can anyone identify it?

So I'm curious if anyone can tell me how to identify the Snap-On tool boxes. I'm figuring maybe from the 70's or 80's. I haven't found a stamp on it anywhere.

Well enough rambling. On to the pics!

All for $600? - That's a huge YOU **** !!

The air compressor looks like a twin cylinder to me.

The DP isn't familiar, but it should have some ID and COO somewhere on it.

Yeah I guess it could be. I see the hump in the middle of the jug. Just imagine a twin cylinder having separate jugs. I'll look on the DP a little closer for some identifying marks!

the bottom box looks like a 1950's kr 352. the top and the middle appear early 70's. there should be a stamp probably either on the back, or the side of the boxes. If you can't find one on the bottom roller, then it's earlier fifties....

If my memory serves me right, snap on didn't start making their own boxes until like 55 or so. so they were not until then....or something like that.

The drill press is 1968-69 vintage Craftsman. American-made. They only sold that style for two or three years. You're missing the sheet metal belt guard. It was probably removed because they had an annoying tendency to rattle. Other than the crappy belt guards, they were pretty good drill presses and will run circles around the Chi Com imports. The nicest feature is a 6" stroke on the quill.

Wow I wasn't expecting them to be that old! They're in amazing shape for their age then. I haven't found any rust anywhere yet. Obviously some of the paint is damaged, but it actually cleans up well! Thanks for the info guys.

Yes the old boxes were made to last. The chrome logos and handles on the roller kind of date it. Please post pictures after its cleaned up. I bet the tools are 1960s(most of them).
Nice stuff.

You may want to remove some of the drawers, sometimes their are hidden treasures loose on the bottom! I found this in mine.<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/77941408@N02/6996294890/" title="Untitled by [email protected], on Flickr"><img src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8021/6996294890_dfc20c445b.jpg" width="282" height="500" alt="Untitled"></a>

How do you remove the drawers? Also are they just slide drawers or roller drawers? They all still work really smooth.

IMHO the boxes are a matched set from the '60s. In the 70's they went to the rectangular tags in place of the script that are on your boxes. I am not a SO collector just an owner of a three box set that I bought off the trk in '71 and they have a tag with the black background. You can go to:
www.collectingsnapon.com and look at the catalogs that are on there.

They are plain slider drawers. You can use two hack saw blades, one one each side you need to slide them past the drawer stop dent. Pull the drawer out.

Usually there is a spring catch you have to squeeze in and the drawer slides right out. Probably just slides, not bearings.

You should empty everything out, organize into groups or sets and then photo everything on a clean background.

By the way, You ****!

You use a small tool, looks like a short piece of a hack saw blade, preferably thinner metal though, about 6 inches long and you shove it into the slide. There are photos here, I'll see if I can find them. Easy, once you get the hang of it.

Well, the top box looks like a 70's kra 57, so you should be able to find a stamp on it. But the bottom, with the handles being the way they are, is most likely 50's. While reading through the catalogs I find it interesting the location of the logo on the bottom, and the style of the logos kind of matching on the "set."

Depending on how curious you are, here's the link for the catalogs.

And I am jealous of your box find. I've been hoping to find a matching middle section...

Mine are an odd set, but they are both date stamped, 55' on them.

Getting around to digging through this thing. Got a LOT of tools. Some seem to be of some value. I'll let you guys be the judge!

Here's a mostly complete SO 3/8" and 1/4" and 1/2" socket set. Also some torx bits. If they're not SO sockets they're either Mac, blue point, black hawke, napa, protos, or challenger.

Here's a large selection of SO punches and chisels. Also a couple of them are proto's.

I've found a TON of Starret and Brown and Sharpe Mics.

I believe these are part of a dimple die set?

A brake flaring tool kit. Blue point tubing cutter.

And miscellaneous wrenches. Some snap on, proto, blue point, ect. Some Ratcheting as well.

That's a mega score, accompanied by major suckage! Nice job! On the left side, lower corner of the box should be the part # and year of manufacture stamped into the steel. I've got a KR-58 made in 1957. It's pretty close to yours save for an extra drawer or two..............

Also, here's a post I did on removing the drawers. Hope it helps.

Thanks guys! This is only about half of the tools so far. And so far I haven't found a stamp anywhere on the boxes yet. So they must not be that old.
