just wanted to share my just happened CL score.

found it listed on CL last night with an ridiculous low asking price. a few emails back and forth. it was a 10 minute round trip from my place to the guys house. and this bad boy was mine.

The PO is a machinist and had owned the box since new (40 years) all the drawer slides work like they are brand new. and only a little bit of surface rust in the very bottom corner of the storage compartment. I couldn't get my money out fast enough.

Just wanted to share.

oh wait, almost forgot i paid $40, and he even helped load it!!!!!!

I wouldnt have paid $40 for that. Looks like harbor freight scrap metal. As long as you are happy though......its your money....

I've never picked up the harbor freight 26" roller but I'm fairly certain it weighs a lot less then the Kennedy.

If you think a Kennedy is "HF scrap", then I will be shopping at HF more often. I am more then happy with my $40 tool box. And your right it is my money.

You got a good deal, but as mentioned you cannot **** yourself on GJ. It's just not done.

(No Soliciting for suckage either..)

I'm not sure if Frodman noticed the Kennedy tag or not, but HF does (or did) sell a crappy knock off with brown wrinkle paint. One of the shoddiest sets I've ever seen...

Let the haters turn their noses up. That just means there's fewer buyers out there for good old tools like the Kennedy box. I'd have "wasted my money" on that too.

It was a huge deal. If there's any doubt as to authenticity (and there shouldn't be), there's a sticker inside one of the top drawers stating the manufacturer's model number.

I'm super excited to have it in my garage, once we move into the new house it will be my garage cart. Only thing wrong with it aside from some minor surface rust. is a lack of key, but that should be an easy fix, any body have any leads for a replacement lock and key? Also the bottom door appears to have holes for a handle so I need a replacement.

Even without the badge, a quick glance at the drawer pulls lets you know it's a Kennedy. I have a Kennedy, I love it, you got a great deal on a quality box. You should be able to remove the lock and have it re-keyed at a locksmith.

The lock is a std cylinder lock so you can simply go to a decent hardware store and buy one with keys the same length, and use the old locking pawl.

Another option to keep it original, is to take the cylinder to a good locksmith and they can cut a key based on the number that should be on the face. Probably $15 -$20

Kennedy probably still sells that drawer pull, but you probably don't want to know what they get for them...

I'd opt for any decent drawer pull that does not stick out too far. I think the spacing is A bit over 5" (measure yours) and is probably available.

or you can do what I did once and use a cool old wrench as a handle. weld/braze a couple of screws on the back, use some spacers, and you have a custom pull...

Call the customer service number at Kennedy Mfg. and order a new key and handle. They're generally pretty quick, in my experience.

There does appear to be a lot of self-suckers lately.

I hadn't noticed that, but you're probably right. I wonder if there is an Oedipus thing going on with some of them.

Or if they are into self-introspection ... they have to judge and praise themselves rather than wait for the opinions of the rest of us on whether the guy ***** or not.

In this case though, nice score, he *****. But he could have wait for the rest of us to chime in.

Nice the way the door butterflies and slides into the cabinet. I doubt any HF unit did that. How many spiders did you bring back with you? :D

It's in my garage right now, giving the creepy crawly things time to find a new home right now. I'll know on Monday when I get a chance to play around with it and clean it up a bit.

As has been said before, one can not self ****. Therefore, you get an eh, nice find.

*Can you explain to me why it took a couple of emails for a $40 kennedy box? Please explain (I wouldn't normally bother to ask, but you went for the self suckage)

He posted it late last night, I told him I was ready to buy, but since I had to work till 1030 I was free this morning. He replied with dimmensions and since he didn't have any pictures it was a **** shoot at that point. I replied again last night I was interested I can be by in the morning. He shot me an email early this morning saying if I wanted it it was first come first serve, I told him to tell me when and where and I was there.

Ten demerits and a suspension of your man cards for not withholding suckage in a self **** situation!

Nice box  I always thought those center fold style front covers were interesting. Not sure how it would be in use, but a neat idea that you don't see much any more. Enjoy it.

I have had success with the linked below ebay seller making Kennedy keys for me.Their communication is great and $12 +/- isn't outrageous for 2 keys cut and shipped. The lock just clips in (usually) and there is a code stamped on the arm that a locksmith can use to make a new key. I'd be interested to know if the codes could be read with an inspection camera? Maybe someone can chime in and try it.I don't have a working setup as of yet.

also many, many Kennedy keys/locks on eBay you'd just have to match up the style needed.

Just yesterday I received some keys from him for a SnapOn box. I went through eBay. Just give him the code off your lock and he cuts new keys and mails them. Super fast service and the keys worked great.

Mumbly00 here, wow what a night...I met up with my buddies, Frisco pliers, Carl vice grip, and wera driver and we tore up the strip mall looking for some action. well about an hour later old Frisco gets an CL alert about some old rusty box for sale and I decide to head on over for a look- see.

Well to make a long story short I bought this old dirty metal box for $40.00 dollars, I am guessing it will be just ok to hold my tools, hey did I do ok or should I have offered less money for that dirty old metal box?

Wait for it, Wait for it...;)

Picked up a cousin to your box today. It has a couple more drawers but doesn't have casters, but I got it for $30. I think its gonna become 1/3rd of a 3 bay Kennedy on a steel cart soon.

I almost put my foot in it: Most cylinder locks have the number stamped on the front face (yeah real secure...) My two Kennedy's of that vintage do not, and one has the lock on a drawer, and no, no visible number on that one, so unlikely the inspection camera would be able to see it.

lock removal: One screw for the locking pawl, and a large nut on the barrel. then see what you can see...
