At the prices they are getting for Brass fittings you might think they were made from Gold.
Good work and a great write up.

Yea tell me about it, I just finished mine and tried to stay with affordable fittings and minimize any unions.
Flare nuts when possible since those were like $3/each.
The 90-degree flare/NPT fittings are $8!!! highway robbery.

Luckily for my setup I only needed 4 flare nuts, a 90-degree flare/NPT, and a straight 1/2 flare NPT. Also the 5/8 to 1/2 compression. But overall about $30 in fittings!!!

Hello,
I'm a new member from Türkiye. I've read the whole thread and found a lot of useful information. Here's my small compressor and the aftercooler I'm still building.

The fan is 220vAC 90watt. I will connect it to the same leads as the pump motor so when the compressor pumps the fan will blow too. My only concern is that the fan would be affected by the vibration of the pump.

Best,
Suat

I had a low budget version using an aluminum intercooler that blew out after a year.

Since this project is old, has it lasted, what are the weak loints

Hello again,

I have a question but instead opening a new thread I'd like to ask here if that is ok.

The water separator gets filled in 3-4 cycles, I mean it works but some of the water still escapes to the tank. I know because I have a separator on the outlet of the tank as well.

Do I need a better separator on the aftercooler?

Thanks.

Probably. Post a photo of the system.

The automatic separator on mine gave up after about 6 months or so due to vibration. I gutted it and just hooked up a needle valve with a drain tube and it just bleeds a bit of air with the water out every cycle. Much simpler.
