Hi all, I thought I'd add my humble garage to this great community, it may not be much but I am always fascinated by the spaces people build things in so hopefully someone will be similarly interested.

I live in a very hilly city with not much flat space available for garages. A previous owner had a construction company and in the 60's they excavated the side of the hill and poured this concrete bunker of a garage.

Most think it is ugly (and it kind of is on the outside haha) but I love the use of concrete in architecture so was happy to have my own little brutalist workshop.

It is usually messy as I tend to have about a dozen things half done at any time.

It only had a couple small shelves, two 75w lightbulbs and a single power outlet when I moved in so a few things were needed.

I built a new bench and wanted some cabinets above it, I'm a bit of a modernist fan too :)

I wanted my vice somewhere easy to work so I cut some i-beam and mounted it between the doors.

I guess at some point I'll be allowed to add images

Edit:
I can see all of them on the mobile app now so that is good.
None are showing via phone browser and only some via PC browser though.

Edit#2:
More pics seem to be showing but still hit and miss for anything not on the app.

Whoah! Now you are talking my language! That is an awesome garage. I gotta say for concrete placed in the 60's that is partially underground, it has held up great. They must have done a good job with the water proofing and drainage. I'm digging the bench and wall rack too. Thanks for posting!

Other than it being a little harder to hammer a nail into the wall to hang things, it looks great. I also like the wall rack, I may need to steal that idea.

Thank you, it has its pros and cons, it can be damp in there at times, normally in spring when warm humid air comes in when I open the doors and condenses on the cold surfaces. This is kept in check with a dehumidifier for now.

Cool space!

Thanks!

You know it, I very quickly bought a rotary hammer drill which makes light work of it.

I like the different colors of the wall rack.

Cheers, I can't take much credit for those, Piet Mondrian came up with it nearly 100 years ago

Ugly ?
I think not !
thats a great bunker well worth opening the phone app to see
thanks for sharing

Thank you, hopefully I can get all the pics showing through the web browser too.

On the wall you built, Well done - Tip of the Hat to Mondrian!

Thanks, I was very happy with how it turned out, functional and it looks good!

I have tried to carry on the red/blue/yellow Mondrian theme, it works well with red tool boxes and the like :)
