I picked this box up today. collecting snap on says its a 1937. It needs some cleaning and maybe a new paint job. Can anyone tell me what the correct color should be?

:lol_hitti Awesome. What did you pay for it if you don't mind my asking. I LOL because I picked up the same box earlier this year. Yea originally it should be a dark gray-ish color.

It is a mid to somewhat late 30's K-5 top, and a RK-5 bottom. Together the set is called a K-500 combo  Please post more pics. Do you have the top tray with it? Is there anything inside the bottom door?

Wow, obviously I can't read, sorry I didn't realize you posted the price before I asked.

After looking at the pics again, it looks like the PO used latex or some type of house paint with a brush to repaint it. Maybe, hopefully you can carefully strip that top paint and be left with the correct, factory paint underneath.

Here are a few pics of mine for color reference. Did you pull out all the drawers? Maybe take the top box off and see if they missed a painted area?

zkling can you post a pic of the front of the bottom door and hinges? It looks like some one added the door to mine. I need to know what the lock looks also. I did pull the drawers out and they didn't paint inside. The top box is also missing the bars that hold the front door on when the top is closed. Thanks for your help. Dale

Yea, I'll get some good pics of it tomorrow, I've been meaning to do that anyways. Hopefully it isn't raining.

The door for the bottom on mine does not have the lock in it unfortunately, just the open hole. The top has a vintage padlock on it. That I think is period correct and thanks to a member here finally works. I'll get some pics of the front door bar(s) as well. Those would be pretty simple to make. Does yours have the removable tray in the top box? Are there any drawers in your bottom box?

After looking at your box again, it does look like someone made the bottom door. The hinges and lock location and hole size don't look correct to be original. :dunno:

Which emblem? The decals or the stamped one on the front cover?

Are you trying to make a reproduction decal out of it or something? It will take me a few days to get it. That is on the back side of the box, which is up against a wall/drilll press. Kinda difficult to pull out.

What do you suppose they expected you to keep in that large bottom opening?

Just an open cabinet storage. Like many boxes have a large open space for bulk storage. They actually made a 2 drawer unit that bolts into the bottom, converting it to 2 drawer and a smaller open space.
