So I'm planning on renting a shipping container 8x8x40 for 110 dollars a month. To be able to store tools and materials while I build my shop. I have 2 generators I can use to power almost anything. Just not sure how to set it up. I have a jeep I want to work on to.

For how many months?
What would the cost to buy it be?
If you are there enough months but can't keep it you can resell it and get part of your money back

Not such a crazy idea ... but they're not ideal.

The container will be at your site ... or a storage yard ??

Shelving on both sides down the far end, narrow bench in the middle, toolbox opposite the bench,

... should still be able to squeeze a vehicle in there ... not much room to play on it tho.

The rental place got anything like these at realistic rental prices ??

Side opening ones are the go ... but pricy.

If your not worried about thieves, I used two garages in a box for a year and a half with tarps on the ground. Put two of them end to end so I had one for tools and the other for my race truck. Did a full tear down over the winter inside that in freezing weather. I put some strips of wafer board along the bottoms on the sides to help keep wind out and used a propane heater for heat in there.

You can purchase a 40' conex for $2k-3k around here. Delivery is a bit pricey depending on method, drag off a tow truck or trailer or bring in a crane, between $100-$1000 all things considered. Condensation is a BIG deal around here, make sure the vents are unobstructed. A conex is a fine idea for temporary, secure storage of tools. Can even make a decent work space, restricted to a 8' width. My locality will not allow me to have a conex on my property for more than a couple weeks to support a move. No long term storage of a conex at all, better call the city before you attempt.

I might have it between 6-18 months. I don't think I will have to worry about people breaking in and the town doesn't care. I do plan on get a garage in a box to. NAKEDIESEL what model is the one you have and would you buy it again. It will be located right on my site a little under 4 acres. I will build some shelving that I will use in my shop when I'm done building it. I'm also going to make a few tables.

I started off with the 12' tall GIB and it was too small to fit my tools and truck in, so I picked up a second 16' tall GIB and easily fit my mud truck inside it. Make sure you stake it down good if you get a lot of wind. We get a ton here on the open plains and after a year and a half of beatings by the wind I was starting to get rips in the canvas.

If I had to do it over again, I would def get the 16'er or get two 16' ers.

using one for storage is a great idea,

however they are 8ft wide....

sounds like plenty of room until you put a vehicle in it....

you'll be climbing over it constantly to get to anything in front of it.

forget about working on anything along the sides...

$110/mo ? Are you saving to pay cash for your garage, going borrow against your home (add onto the home loan) or a separate loan to pay for the garage ?

Whatever you pay in rent, is going to take away from your build savings or would probably pay alot of your increased monthly payment on the construction loan.

Surprised no one mentioned these are Prepper Friendly. Guess I just did. We used them for storage in Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor, for Little League Baseball equipment, among other things. Great for storage.

No vehicle is going to be parked in it. It will be used just for storage and maybe working on small projects. If a vehicle is going to be stored on my land in will be inside one of the shelter logic gib next to the container. I don't own a home yet and have bad credit but I do have a good chunck in a profit sharing account through my job. I will try to barrow through that in the spring. My plan is 40x60x16 with attic trusses. I will have an apartment in the trusses.
