Back in the early 70s my dad used a product to remove paint, rust, smooth wood out It was some kind of abrasive. I remember it being black. very porous, light weight, smelled like sulfur, and tuned to a very fine powder when used. It came in sheets 24 " x 24" x 2". Would like to locate it to use for smoothing out rust and paint removal on my tool chest rehabs. anybody know of such a product? Thanks, Johnny Generic.

It sounds like you are referring to a grill cleaning brick. They are made of a very light pumice stone, and put off a sulfer like odor when used.

I have never seen the material in sheets though.

We called it fart rock. We would take a couple of small pieces, sneak up behind a new machinist at his lathe, rub the pieces together and walk off. Oh, the nose wrinkling that went on!

I never heard of it. Can you still get it or has it been banned?

It hasn't been banned, but Owens Corning took it off the US market because it didn't sell. It worked great, but was too expensive to become popular.

They sell "Foamglas T3" in the UK, maybe another member can hook you up.

Yep, same around here. Fart rock or Fart block, cannot remember exactly.
