Here is how my Dad likes to store his extension ladder.... and other things. 'Arms' are screwed into the trusses (sp) up above. I just thought it was neat!

that is a neat idea.
but as chuck said..wouldnt work on my ceilings.

the previous owner had a really cool rig for storing a canoe attached to the ceiling.
he had a 2x4 U, like the pvc one posted here, on one end and a strap looped thru some eye bolts on the other.
put one end of the canoe in the U and loop the strap around the other and pull the canoe up to ceiling height.

Couldn't you always do the same thing on the side wall (if your ceilings are so high). I would think it would work just as well on its side. Great idea though.

Probably would work but some basic arms/brackets work on a wall. Mine are hard to see here because they are just below my loft...but it's just an inverted "L" made from 2x4 with a 45 deg. brace and lag screwed into the studs. The top surfaces are at a slight up-angle. The leg against the wall is long enough so that the ladder bangs against them and not the wall.
