I have attached some pics of my ongoing project. I have been working on this since we bought our house in 2007. The previous owner built the garage, they did the roof and siding. I have finished all the electrical, plumbing, insulation and drywall (Had a contractor come out and do the taping and mud on the drywall). A friend of mine has a heating and ac company so I had him come out and do the heating and air, went with a 2 1/2 ton unit to heat and cool both floors.
I have attached some pictures of how it stands now. Let me know what you guys think.

Chris

Welcome Chris
Wow that looks like a very nice space to work in. Plenty of room up stairs. Any plans for the upstairs? I like the seperate room for the compressor. Very nice.

Wow. A perfect, clean slate -- and all that extra space up above.

How do you plan to fill it up?

Thanks for all the complements so far.

Well right now we are going to finish the drywall and then do paint. Looking at doing 3/4 hardwood floors upstairs, probably oak.... depending on the price. Upstairs is a closet to store towels and other things and also a full size bathroom with shower, toilet and vanity (will be finished last). We have a Bunswick classic pool table that will be put up as soon as the floors are finished. I am also planning on doing a kitchenette upstairs as well. There is a cubby that I am planning on putting a keg-o-rator in also.

As far as the downstairs goes, I have allot of junk that is not in the picture due to the drywall finishers needed a clear space to work in. But I have cabinets and workbenches and more lighting. I will have to put all that stuff up when they finish and I am finished with the painting, although I am not sure on my color choice at this point.

I am trying to use every bit of space there is in the garage. Under the stairs is where the hot water heater is, the air compressor, a mop sink will be installed with cabinets above that and some more storage space. If you look at the one pic where there is a built in cabinet type thing, that’s where all the plumbing comes down from the upstairs. So trying to maximize my space I did the built in and wired all my speakers in the wall so I could build a shelving unit for my radio and other odd's and in's.

I work at night all the time so I work on it when I can. I will keep everyone updated as the progress goes on.

That looks great! I really like the upstairs room also, I can't wait to see it with your pool table in there!

Was it the previous owners that framed the interior walls or did you do that yourself?

We have done all the framing other than the building itself. I did the interior room upstairs, as that was the only room that needed to be framed. I wish I was the one who built it, because the company that built it did not caulk all the trusses. The room upstairs is built into the trusses and there are a few places where the walls have about an 1/8" out of line. good thing that you can’t tell too much yet.... I will see when it’s painted though.

Also all walls have the thick plastic (either 4 or 6mm) vapor barrier.

I know it’s been a while, but I wanted to add some photos of things I have done since the last time I posted. I had the drywall finished, I painted everything.... and about wanted to kill myself while doing that (I hate painting). Moved everything back into the garage, got everything set up for the most part. I am still moving things around and hanging flag's and pictures when I get/find them.

The sad thing is I am going to be cutting some of the drywall in the ceiling to add two 1 3/4" x 16" x 28' beams down the center of the ceiling to add additional support for the floor above. I am putting a 4'x8' pool table up there and didn’t want the floor to sag, or have anything to snap. I talked with many people and they said two 1 3/4" x 12" x 28' beams would be plenty so I figured if that was good then a 16" would be better. Ordered that from Lowes the other day and should be arriving Friday.

I have also bought the hardwood flooring for the upstairs. I ended up going with Bruce 3/4" Oak flooring in Butterscotch. I also got a pretty good deal on the cabinets for the bar area. I will be staining them the same color as the pool table.

The bathroom is still in the same condition as the last pictures, but I will be getting the tile and everything to try and finish that off soon.

let me know what you think.

Got the floors finished this weekend. Talk about back breaking work! I have gotten all the trim and I am not working on that. I set the pool table frame up so the wife will stop wondering if we are going to have enough room out there for the pool table, card table, chairs etc. Let me know what you think.

super awesome garage! Many could live in a garage that nice :bounce:

At first i was wondering why you didn't go higher with the ceiling for a 2 post, but then i saw the midrise style lift. Did you build it in mind with using a midrise or what?

We did not build the garage. We bought the house 4 years ago, the previous owners built the garage. I would have gone with a higher celings in the garage to accommodate a 2 post lift. We went with what we had though. My dad gave me the floor lift so that will do most everything I need to do. If not I will go to his shop and use a 2 post lift.

I am shooting for the first of april to play a game of pool for my b-day.

Thanks.... The motor on the stand makes ~750 whp. Yes they are SSR comps. I have it torn apart to shave the engine bay, install a 10 point cage and repaint everything.

I will have to look and see. I know there was a build thread on Honda-tech but I will have to see if I can find it. I built the car about 6 years ago and some things have changed.

Sweet garage you got! How much did it cost you to build that complete garage with the foundation and everything?

Not sure on the building price. The previous owner had the garage built, sided and put under roof. I have spent over 20k in finishing it. I think I remember him saying he paid close to 50 - 60k on the building.

Nice honda. first thing that i noticed was that fatty intercooler. whats the setup on the motor ?

Motor is a GSR bottom end with a B16 head, sleeved with rods and pistons. Full-Race top mount manifold, custom intercooler and a lot of other stuff. Puts out about 750whp.

Hey Chris, just found your thread. Looks great! It's a slightly larger version of my build, same basic layout with the back stairs and 2nd floor. I have plans to install my compressor under the stairs, and pipe out around the sides.

My 2nd floor is unfinished right now, but that may change after I see what you have done with yours!!

Nice job!
