My Devoe epoxy floor project

This may be a dumb question but how do you get the chips looking so uniform? You place the chips and then apply a clear on top? Doesn't that cause some of the chips to stick to the roller or applicator?

Its a different technique. You apply the primer, then wait a day (or whatever is recommended), apply the base coat, and while the base coat is still wet, you carefully walk out onto it using "spikes" (I used old golf shoes, but at a concrete supply store you can get the kind made for this that strap onto your old boots or sneakers). Then, you toss handfuls of chips up into the air & let them fall down like snowflakes. Once it is as saturated as you want, you carefully walk off & let it cure. The next day, once the base coat is "dry", you go out & use a broom & maybe a squeegee to sweep up any flakes that didn't adhere to the base coat of epoxy. Some chips may be standing on end & you may need to knock them down with a putty knife. The vast majority of chips will be stuck very firmly into the base coat of epoxy. Finally, you apply the clear top coat.

Devoe Coatings was a division of ICI paints, http://www.international-pc.com/north-america/devoe/devoe-coatings.aspx. Check the website and see if there is a dealer near you. The flakes came from Colorchips.com. Any high solids epoxy with a UV-resistant urethane clearcoat will work, prep is the key.
