Well, here goes again, I had a post written and while reviewing the post I closed my browser... AAARRRGGGHHHH! Here's the skinny, The house was built in 1955 (3 years older than me). I grew up on the next street over and walked by this house while in elementary school. We bought the house "as is" knowing about the flaws and faults. Overall the house and garage is a minor project, mostly redecorating. As for the garage, it's the largest I've ever had at 22' deep and 28' wide and an ample 10' cieling height. Somewhere in it's history someone who flunked geometry decided to replace all but 2 of the roof stringers with a structure of dubious unknown purpose. They failed to understand a triangle without the bottom leg is not very strong. The structure started to pull apart and the front wall bowed out 6 - 8" at the center. We pulled it back into shape with a combination of 2 tow straps and 2 4000lb come a longs pulling the wall, coupled with an 8 ton jack lifting on the peak. The straps were so tight you could play a tune! We replaced the old structure with new and made provisions to vault the ceiling on one side in preparation for an eventual lift. Well enough yammerin, here's some pics.

At present the walls are covered with water damaged panelling on the bottom and deteriorated drywall on the top. The north wall, (far end from the house) has the top half completely covered with peg board. The plan is to insulate the walls and ceiling, install additional outlets and a bunch of light. For the walls I'd like to cover the bottom half with corrugated metal for moisture resistance and the top with OSB for durability. The ceiling will likely be skinned with white pole barn siding. My compressor will mount in the rafters above the work bench at the north wall. Now for the bonus to me, a previous owner finished a 10'X10' room into a shop or craft room. I plan to move my metalworking stuff in there, except the welder. Kinda thinking it needs a color change. I am open to any suggestions, ideas, advice and critique. There is a ton of good knowledge and ideas here and I have saved a ton of photos from here for future reference. Thanks all!

So, a couple of weeks have gone by and there's been tons of house projects to do, no time for the garage. I've had a couple of projects in there but no progress on the garage itself.

Nice looking home. I had tin on the bottom half of my walls for a while. I didn't like it. Easy to dent, grinding dust discolors it, flashing the top of it to the wall is interesting. I didn't like it, soon pulled it down. I used 1/2" plywood on my walls after that w/ screws for easy removal for future work (wiring, plumbing, etc).

Thanks for both the compliment and the advice. I wasn't really thinking about durability or discoloration. I just liked the look. I kinda want something different than a plain wall. I'm planning on OSB on the top and keeping my wall of peg board on the top of the end wall.

Well, a year and a half later... I'm looking to get back on track once the weather breaks. Wiring, lighting, insulation and heat are the primary projects, aside from some major organization. I picked up 14 4 bulb fluorescent fixtures. After giving a few to friends I should still have plenty of light! My plan is to run a couple of additional (30a) electric runs and a natural gas line out to the garage. I NEED better heat out there! A 4 post lift is also on the short list.

Over 4 years since my last post... Time has changed things a bunch. A divorce, selling the house, remarriage, a new house and a new 30x40 shop build over the last couple of years. My biggest lesson is I'm not 30 anymore! LOL!!

I plan to update this thread with my new Hayfield shop.
