I've posted a bit about the house my wife and I were interested in buying, mostly in the electrical forum, I did not however post any pics of the garage...

We've closed now, and the place is ours (after the requisite 360 payments or equivalent), so here is the small one car attached garage:

The previous owner was Jack Olsen of sorts though and did wonders with making the inside look bigger than it is:

So clearly you can tell that this isn't the same garage:

This is the 32x30 pole barn style garage. Where my future toys will call home. Being renters I was leary to get too many toys, and there wasn't really a garage, so no place to store them I'd I did. That's not so much of a problem now, as the first pic was of the wife's garage....

Updates will come as we get moved in, butwe spent the afternoon taking off wallpaper from my littlest ones walk to prep for paint, we even put her to work...

We move the rest of our stuff this week, and as we get the house settled my escape will as well, my tool collection will grow, and so will the projects, a few are already planned...

-Bed for (older) daughter.
-Bar for the bar.
-lots of landscaping.

Good for you Oggy! Especially like the wife's garage. You will have the barn all to yourself!

Thank You. I like it, she has the family car, and will be parking it in there. the old garage door opener has to come down, and the new one will go up... But that'll be a project for after we move in, too many other projects going on this weekend to get that completed...

You are going in with a great starting point. Hopefully you will get it all squared away before the dreaded burnout has a chance to take hold.

Thank You as well. I certainly hope so, I have a lot of plans, unfortunately though, the piggy bank is about tapped out now. There's still plenty of stuff to do though. I have my tool laid out on the bench, so I'll have to get them stored, but it allowed me to find what I needed to fix my brakes. I'll update with pictures as we go, the wifes garage has never been painted in 60+ years and has a hole in the wall, the GDO installed, and maybe new springs...

The previous owner had a lot of these, I don't get it, the microwave was plugged into it... I'm certain because it was there when we moved in its now in the basement, and we aren't quite sure if we're going to keep it for the bar or put it up for sale...

I can't stand these switch/outlet combos, I think they're annoying, and have been replacing them. I'm sure they have their place but it's not in my kitchen. (All the other outlets are installed this way)

nice score on the house and good sized garage. anywhere near steuben county? that is a particularly pretty part of ny that we used to visit every year. what do you have planned for the larger space?

So the switch side doesn't control anything but the outlet next to it? The PO probably used those as a quick way to 'unplug' appliances when he was gone. Frankly, not a bad idea but I bet that shorts you on available outlets.

Great big garage. AFA as the sneaky part about JO making it look bigger, I think we'd all like to enter the door to a small garage only to find a cavern!

I've said it far too many times here. But anytime you can buy a shop and they toss in a house, it's a total win! Congrats on the new digs and all the projects soon to follow.

Those combo switch with receptacle can be wired so that the switch controls the outlet and/or a device further down the circuit. What might have happened is the switch was not used, only the receptacle. They cost several times the price of a regular switch or a duplex receptacle. Only makes sense if you wave a box of them that you want to use up.

PS: Does one control the dish washer and another control the garbage disposal?

It does, and one of the reasons for changing this one out (besides not liking a blinking clock on my microwave) is that we needed to put the toaster oven somewhere, and next to the microwave is the perfect place.

This was our initial thought, especially since there are two lights right next to each other, both on a switch like this. However, they're each individually controlled (the lights). There is no garbage disposal, well there was one, but now it's in the storage room, and the dishwasher is connected to the outlet said disposal would have been on, so I'm not sure that I can wire it up without causing myself more grief than I'm willing to endure.

All of the switch/outlet combos I've found have the outlet switched, with the exception of the lights.

Thank You, I'm hoping to get a project car sometime soon, but it looks like my current dd will be going before that happens, and I'll be getting something that I don't need to worry about a payment. In the mean time the shop has been filled with stuff from the storage unit, and it's time to start filtering that out and making room again. It's amazing how much stuff you accumulate and not even realize it...

My multi-quotes didn't all click...

We're north east of Steuben couty, and wouldn't be too long of a car ride if it weren't for a couple Finger Lakes in between. It's very beautiful up here, I'm from South Jersey though, and miss being by the water, with the lakes nearby it help get rid of that, and when the time comes for a boat, it'll be that much better. We love the area though, and seem to every day find another beautiful view.

My plans for the larger garage... I'd like to get a project car, haven't decided whether it'll be resto-mod, track car, or something completely else though... I'm leaning towards an older convertible for now, I have two girls, and I'd like to get something that they can work on with me when it needs it (there's 4-6+ months of winter up here), yet still take it out and enjoy it when the weather is nice.

I also enjoy doing wood work, but the two are tough to mix... I'm at the point where I'm getting into the tasks that I want to do that require the more expensive tools for each of them (ie welding, crown molding, etc) Time to start making decisions...
