Looks good, it is always nice to have a shop to use! Is there anything you would change? Any issues that have come up? I am always curious, I know once I build something and start using it, I can almost always come up with ways to improve it.

My shop is getting to where I can actually use it. Who knows maybe this will be the year that I can make it pay for itself.

The only thing I would really do differently is to make it bigger. At this point I am thinking about making another space for storage and for equipment that isn't constantly used but needs to be close at hand. I really love the space I have created in this shop, the light through the clerestory is great and the doors make it nice in the spring, summer and fall when I can let a breeze through. I would also like to add an outdoor lift for automotive work both for customers and personal but I can't quite swing the concrete and the cost of the lift right now.

Thanx for looking,
Jaysin

The shop itself is a work of art, you guys did a nice job. I love the clerestory windows, I also have to admit that I always thought they were celestory, no clue why.

I think having extra storage is an ongoing battle for all of us. The lift would be a nice addition. I like the door and the patina that has been created.

Great build! I am looking to fabricate some doors on my shop similar to yours. I'm curious what the specs(size and gauge) are on your tubing and sheet.

The tubing for the door frames is 1.5" x 1.5" x .065" wall, with 20g crs sheet skins. I added 1" rigid foam insulation that has helped with heat a lot, both keeping it out during the summer and in during the winter.

Hope that helps,
Jaysin

Probably not my place to announce this but TGJ has lost a talented contributor.
I found this as I excitedly opened the subscription to a Toyota 4X4 build thread he was doing.

RIP JaysinSpaceman!
Thoughts and prayers to your friends and family!

Thanks for sharing this. I knew Jaysin from his contributions here and on the OFN. He was a very talented designer and fabricator and good guy. He won't be soon forgotten!

Aww man!

I'd never seen this build before and from the first post of that unusual roofline I knew that both the man and the building were going to be my cup of tea. As I read through the whole thread I got more and more excited, and was all ready to spout my praise and admiration for everything he'd done.

What a kick in the pants to find that news at the end. Rest in peace buddy. Hope there's plenty of fabrication up there to keep you busy.

I was like Strouty expecting something else in the thread and was taken back by the news. I loved not just the skills but the creativity he had.

The logic in me knows that death is an everyday occurrence and happens around us all the time but for some reason it's strange to see and know that one of the GJ crew/family won't be with us anymore. My condolences to his family and friends. He seemed like a guy any of us would have loved to have a beer with....

41 years old. He was such a talented guy. I'm in Florida, never met him, but it still hits you hard. Far too young to be gone. Thoughts are with those close to him.

As a side note, I wish there was a "legacy thread" for people like this. His projects will likely fall off the grid due to his absence. It be nice if his, and other members who has passed, could have their threads "stickied" somehow

Just a thought.

Rest in peace Jaysin.

Wow, such a sad event to happen. RIP my friend.
I wish to send my condolences to his family.
I just was reading this entire thread and found it so interesting, all his builds and always answering people's questions. He seemed so kind to all when responding and liked talking about his work.
I will miss his posts and kindness.

This was a shock to open this thread today and find the link to his death notice.

To his family and friends: You have my sincere condolences. I had enjoyed reading through his garage build thread and he had lots of neat ideas and precisely fabricated. His work was an inspiration to me while I am building my own garage. May you remember the good times and hopefully the pain of loss and sorrow will ease with time.

My thoughts are with you.

I just did a quick run through the thread and if there is a link to Jaysin's Fabrication Business Web Site, I didn't see it. Here's the link for those that might be interested.

I followed along with Jaysin's thread for a while now, because I was so impressed with his fabrication skills and his artistic eye. Even though I never met him in person I feel like I lost a friend, I was jealous of the relationship he had with his dad, he seems like a amazing man too...RIP my Garage Journal friend

Man. Jaysin was a talented dude and an inspiration. I loved all the detail he put into his work. This was one of my favorite threads as well. Way too young. My condolences to his wife and family.

So some people see things as coincidence, others as the will of the Cosmos, or fate....
But i decided to scroll through my subscribed threads tonight and saw this thread there and thought I'd have a look through and admire Jaysin's build and creativity again.
Turns out its 2 years to the day since his passing........ so in memory of Jaysin and this awesome garage that he and his family built I'm going to bump this thread.

RIP Jaysin

"The Dash" originally was an essay written by Alton Maiden, a former Notre Dame student and football player under famed coach Lou Holtz. Coach Holtz first read the composition to his players in 1996 at a team meeting. It has a very thought-provoking message.

I've seen death’s stare in a way that many cannot know.
I've seen death claim and others take but still left me below.
I've heard the wails of mothers’ cries but death refused to hear.
I've seen a face contort with grief and eyes great wells of tears.

Once death has come and pain has gone a tombstone sits to see.
But it’s no more than a symbol of a person's memory.
I've seen my share of tombstones but took not the time to heed
The meaning behind what is there for everyone to read.

The person's name is clearly shown and the date of birth we see.
Past the dash we read the date the soul met eternity.
The date of birth and the date of death we read in but a flash.
What tells us most about a life is what’s within the dash.

A person’s name, the face, the eyes, in time we cease to see.
Even the dates of birth and death from our recollections flee.
But in the dash, the simple dash, are the memories that last.
The life, the loves, the joys and aches of a soul so quickly passed.

When you begin to chart your life avoid the path most rash.
Your birth and death will quickly dim, but forever lives your
dash.
